IPPF is a global service provider and a leading advocate of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for all. We are a world-wide movement of national organisations working with and for communities and individuals. 

To support implementation of IPPF’s strategic plan, IPPF is recruiting to a new post – Director, Strategic Advice. If you have the stature, intellect and leadership qualities to collaborate effectively in development, healthcare, political and academic environments, then join our Senior Management Team (SMT) and play a key role in the implementation of IPPF’s Change Goals.

Giving strategic advice to the Director-General (DG) and to Senior Volunteers, you will lead on the development and implementation of the strategic plan, ensuring IPPF is supported to get issues onto the political agenda. With international travel, you will act as key liaison between the DG, the SMT, IPPF Volunteers and external stakeholders, and have responsibility for internal communication across the Federation. Managing complex and sensitive projects you will ensure that policy and strategy support IPPF’s Change Goals. Additionally you will be responsible for the internal audit function. 

You have significant experience in executive and strategic advisory work on political issues in an international organisation to include developing country experience – ideally in the international health or development sector. Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and rights is desirable. You have a track record in internal communications in a complex global organisation and are competent in internal audit.

You have strong business acumen and political awareness and are a seasoned strategic operator at global level. You have excellent judgment and respect for confidentiality and the ability to provide sound and impartial advice. With responsibility for all communication material for the DG you have fluent English, strong research and analytical skills, and excellent written communication skills to draft complex communications. French and Spanish are desirable. Strong interpersonal skills to include negotiation, influencing and diplomacy are essential as is a track record in strategic collaboration and in managing controversial and politically sensitive interactions. You have well-developed problem-solving skills and a proven track record of delivering high quality complex projects to deadline and to budget. Sound IT and time management skills are essential as are good people management skills to oversee the DG’s office. You have a degree or equivalent standard of education. A post-graduate management degree or equivalent standard of education is desirable.
