The Global CCS Institute Objective

The Global Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Institute works collaboratively to build and share the expertise necessary to ensure that carbon capture and storage (CCS) can make a significant impact on reducing the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.
The Institute connects people and organisations around the world to address issues and learn from each other to accelerate the deployment of CCS and CCUS projects through the sharing of knowledge, fact-based advocacy and assisting projects.

Purpose of the Position

Reporting to the General Manager – EMEA, this role will be the lead in a global network of policy, regulatory and legal experts within the Global CCS Institute. The Principal Manager – Policy and Regulatory will provide advice and facilitate the development of fit-for-purpose policy options for international bodies, governments, Institute Members and industry associations to boost capacity of governments and industry to accelerate the deployment of CCUS with a key focus on the Europe, Middle East and Africa. This role will also give advice on the regulatory and political aspects that impact upon the broad-based commercial deployment of CCUS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the Global CCS Institute as the lead Policy and Regulatory expert in Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage for the EMEA region;
  • Actively contribute to positioning the Global CCS Institute as an international CCUS expert and knowledge broker in the development of supportive policy and associated regulatory arrangements for the deployment of CCUS;
  • Interact with other international bodies, government, Institute Members and industry associations to advance best practices and knowledge sharing in the development of international and national policy arrangements on CO² capture, transportation and storage;
  • Be the main point of contact with a group of Institute Members and projects in the Americas region to ensure that Institute Members’ needs are being met;
  • Establish, develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with industry, government, consultants, Institute Members and other key stakeholders to enhance and facilitate the exchange of information and knowledge sharing across regulatory jurisdictions and business sectors involved with project development, funding and execution;
  • Conduct relevant research and analysis and provide expert opinion, advice and education on key policy matters that directly impact the outlook and opportunity for the execution of large scale CCUS projects in the EMEA region;
  • Support the preparation and presentation of the annual strategic analysis report on the status of CCS projects worldwide to position the Institute as the leading authority on the status and dynamics of the global CCS portfolio;
  • Present papers and make presentations at conferences, networking functions and other relevant events;
  • Assemble, analyse and review economic research and data on regulatory and policy matters affecting the commercial deployment of CCS in the EMEA region;
  • Actively contribute to the planning and delivery of research projects with a focus on policy and regulatory effects;
  • Initiate and assist with the development and review of research proposals and tenders for consultancies;
  • Work collaboratively with the global network of policy and regulatory experts as the lead representative within the Institute while providing key policy and regulatory support to the EMEA Team;
  • Domestic and international travel will be required.

Experience and Educational Requirements

Essential

  • Proven knowledge and understanding of the implications of economic trends on policy and regulatory aspects of the broad-based commercial deployment of CCS;
  • Recognised as having expert knowledge and/or a research profile in the carbon capture and storage policy development/legal/regulatory frameworks;
  • Demonstrated experience in public policy and corporate strategy/advisory;
  • Proven leadership and experience in undertaking research and analysis activities;
  • Relevant post graduate qualifications in either economics, commerce, law or a related discipline;
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of statistical packages.
