Emergency Response Superintendent AngloGold Ashanti (AGA)


AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents.   AGA employs over 62,000 people globally.  In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager.  Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%.  The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.
Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade.  The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project).  Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.
We are now seeking an experienced ERT Superintendent to join our Safety team at the Tropicana Gold Mine.
Accountable to the Safety Manager, this role is responsible for the Planning and Coordination of the emergency management system. This role is based on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.
The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to;
  • Identifying and complying with legal and other requirements for emergency management
  • Developing emergency prevention, preparedness and response plans, programs and procedures
  • Develop emergency management teams
  • Lead and engage the team in the development of plans to manage emergency management, encouraging full participation and buy-in from team members and providing clear communication and understanding of project goals, targets and objectives, whilst ensuring full alignment with the project plans
  • Build workforce capability by actively determining, developing, sourcing and participating in the delivery of appropriate training to ensure competency levels of the team are attained and maintained in all aspects of emergency response and security
  • Prepare the annual ERT budget taking into account, people, training, plant and equipment, PPE and specialised clothing and equipment to manage an emergency
  • Assist in the effective control of departmental expenses by optimising the use of allocated funds in areas such as training & development, sourcing, issuing, purchasing, servicing repair of equipment including project vehicles
  • Build consistency, professionalism and develop stakeholder trust in the department by coaching, mentoring and continually communicating in an appropriate manner to ensure their full understanding of their role and commitment to service delivery
  • Develop service agreements/contracts with external training providers
  • Build the professionalism of the company by positively representing it in a number of forums relating to, but not limited to mine rescue committees & competitions, law enforcement agencies and community emergency response groups
  • Develop and maintain appropriate accurate information systems that capture relevant departmental activity to identify key performance indicators
 The ideal candidate will possess;
  • A Certificate in emergency management and response
  • Sound knowledge of Western Australian mining legal and other requirements
  • A High level of knowledge and understanding of surface mining operations, haulage, mineral processing of precious metals and shared use infrastructure to enable the competent management of an emergency response and security service
  • Leadership skills managing emergency teams
  • Experience creating, integrating, and maintaining plans and schedules for the work to be performed
  • Current WA Drivers Licence
