The Organisation
Our assets in Trinidad and Tobago are vitally important to BG Group, with gas being supplied to the domestic market and fed into Atlantic LNG for export, primarily to North America. We supply gas to three of four LNG trains at Atlantic LNG in which we are also a shareholder. This represents fully integrated projects involving production and liquefaction, shipping and re-gasification for onward sale into the US market. Our current exploration focus is the phased development of the North Coast Marine Area.
Position Summary
The Central Control Room Technician is part of the operations team accountable for the day to day operation of the Control Room. The role is central for ensuring optimum production targets are achieved safely. The role provides initial response to high priority alarms and takes control of plant and communication duties in the event of an emergency.
The Central Control Room Technician will be conversant with field operations and will be required to work in the field as directed by the Operations Team Lead.
The jobholder will also ensure production activities and operating parameters comply with BG Advance standards and BG Trinidad & Tobago policies and procedures.
Key Accountabilities
HSSE• Ensure safe operations within design parameters.
• Engender a culture of continuous HSSE performance improvement.
• Ensure daily production activities on the BG Trinidad & Tobago assets fully comply with BG practices including safe systems of work.
• Act as Permit signatory under SSOW and PTW system (as outlined in BG T&T operating procedures).
• Actively participate in Behaviour based safety, reporting on unsafe conditions and other safety initiatives pioneered by BG
• Ensure that Operations Team Lead is advised when any Safety Critical Equipment has failed to meet the performance standard.
• Contribute to the development of production related emergency response training scenarios.
• Actively contribute to the production team achieving outstanding performance in meeting BG Group HSSE targets and performance metrics
• The post holder has the authority to shutdown or blow down production plant as deemed necessary in the event of an un-planned process event.
• The post holder will monitor worksite safety within designated work areas.


Production Control• Ensures safe and efficient operations at all times.
• Operates the facility DCS and HMI systems.
• Manages the facility PSICs and ESD Overrides.
• Is a key member of the Emergency Response teams responsible for control room panel management or the initiation of Emergency plant isolations.
• Monitors and maintains plant production inventories and ancillary chemical supplies.
• Active monitoring of all control room process and systems
• Identify and respond to plant operating outside normal parameters of malfunction and carry out the necessary action to correct, report actions to the Operations Team Lead.
• Completes all relevant records, log books etc in order to generate required reports.
• Gather and collect data for the process and utility equipment, identify actions to be taken to minimise equipment and machinery failure.
• Recover plant from any emergency shutdown and minimise loss of production, whilst adhering to operating procedures.
• Complete pre-start up/operating checks, ensuring all interdependent systems are available.
• Complete post start-up/operating checks to ensure normal operating conditions.
• Manages the plant and equipment within their operating design limits.
• Maintain and be aware of all works being carried out of the installation, which may have an impact on the normal and safe operation of plant, including awareness of all active permits to the work issued and accepted.
• Support Operations Team Lead to seek out gaps in production activities, contributing to and delivering production improvements.
• Monitor production rates for the facility and proactively reacts to potential deviations from forecasted production rates.
• Provides trends and alarm and event history as input into Root Cause Analysis of all unplanned production outages.
• Communicates with ICE rooms, NGC and ALNG as required to discharge daily job functions
• Assists with shutdown preparations and isolations
• Interfaces with Maintenance and Engineering to recommend improvements in the operating and maintenance procedures
• Recommends improvements to operator interfaces and central control room equipment.
Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
• Preferably a recognised Production Operations qualification such as Processing Operations (Hydrocarbons) Control Room Level 3
• Some understanding relevant industry legislation especially Production related areas.
• Fully conversant with all forms of process engineering documentation, including block diagrams, PFD’s, P&ID’s, Data Sheets and Cause & Effect charts.
• Conversant with national and international codes and standards applicable to the design, construction, and operation of process plant.
• PTW and general control of work.
• Isolations standard similar to BG SIRP.
• Shall be competent in identified Safety Critical Tasks in the following areas, including but not limited to, Ops HSSE, Logistics, and Production.
• Proven capability in leading production technicians
• Proven capability in measuring, reporting and analyzing data to deliver performance improvements.
• Proven skills in problem solving in relation to production related issues.
• Perform in an emergency response role as defined in Company procedures, contributing to managing and delivering emergency response actions in the event of accidents or incidents under the direction of OIM or other relevant persons.
• Monitor and respond effectively to situation changes.
• Committed to the highest standards of HSE, working continuously for improvement both in own activities and in those of the assets, projects or other business activities in which they are involved.
• Must be willing to work offshore
• Travel to other facilities will be expected
• Must be very mobile locally to commute to various sites as required by job responsibility.
• Able to manage own time and apply relevant time management techniques to ensure timely delivery of work activities.
• Good communication skills, particularly updating relevant parties on active work scopes.
• Interact with others in a sensitive way, respectful of differences in approach style and culture.
• Actively participates in the attainment of team goals, putting team goals ahead of functional and self interest.
• Track record of continuing professional development to keep abreast of latest developments relevant to discipline and industry.
