DIRECT MARKETING MANAGER

ACF Canada is responsible for global leadership of the SMART nutrition survey methodology, recruiting Canadians to work in the field, advocacy and fundraising to increase public, government and donor support for a world free from hunger. Today we are just beginning to be known by Canadians and there is a great deal we are doing to build awareness of ACF and, importantly, of the need to keep nutrition at the centre of the Canada’s development agenda.
In order to achieve our goals, we have recently relocated our Canadian HQ from Montreal to Toronto. While retaining a small team in Montreal, we are building a strong, dynamic and highly talented team in Toronto. The position of Direct Marketing Manager is key leadership role for an experienced, ambitious and committed Direct Marketer eager to grow professionally and work with a globally respected, innovative network of humanitarian experts.
Responsibilities:
The person engaged as Direct Marketing Manager will be responsible for leading the development of multi-year individual giving strategies, coordinating all individual donors fundraising activities, developingACF-Canada’s supporters base and income stream and managing a small volunteer team in the implementation of well developed youth engagement programmes. The person will be reporting tothe Executive Director and will work in close collaboration with Communications and Advocacy colleagues.
The role offers large scope for development for a target driven candidate with the launch of new fully integrated, innovative fundraising campaigns in the coming months and years.
Tasks:
- Develop, lead and manage multi-year individual giving strategies and related financial assumptions and tracking
- Lead the planning of annual and emergency campaigns;
- Identify strategies for cultivation of major gifts;
- Manage the launch of multi-channel, multi-year fundraising programmes
- Share knowledge and collaborate with counterparts in other ACF HQs;
- Provide recruitment support and leadership for volunteers engaged in fundraising for ACF – Canada;
- Managethe budget across individual giving programmes and coordinate all activities (on and offline);
- Produce regular financial reports to assess the on-going performance of direct marketing activities and reconcile monthly on-line and off-line donor income and with the Finance Manager;
- Report regularly on the status and progress of the campaigns.
- Manage agency and consultant relationships and budgets
- Leading the development and implementation of a donor retention strategy
- Including the strategic vision and implementation of all aspects of acquisition, retention and upgrading of donors;
- Measure and maximize regular giving, payroll giving through a series of targeted initiatives and personalised contact with supporters and suppliers;
- Reinforce and lead innovations in the design and implementation of essential and engaging donor relations tools and tactics;
- Maximize individual donor participation to communication and advocacy campaigns as well as support to humanitarian disasters in collaboration with the communications team.
- Plan, execute and coordinate fundraising campaigns and efforts for ACF - Canada
- Implement and enhance annual campaigns, including two important, well developed national youth engagement initiatives;
- Implement and enhance major gift and partnership programmes;
- Develop a support kit for specific, targeted events;
- Manage fundraising back office including responsibility for the database, donation processing, maximizing digital payment platforms, offline tax receipting, scoping requirements for internal data cleaning and providing accurate and timely reporting (with the support of a junior database administrator);
- including managing the process of data transfer from all suppliers,
- Provide segmentation and statistical analysis of campaigns and donor profiles in order to maximise campaign returns and develop personalised stewardship programmes.
- Develop & implement a donor recognition programme that is timely, respectful and effective.
- Support the Director of Communications and Strategic Engagement in the development and cultivation of relationships and partnerships with corporations, non-profit and government organisations
- Identify and engage with constituencies at a community level (student groups, schools, municipalities, etc.) for development and outreach;
- Develop partnerships with a wide range of corporations, foundations and organisations to provide in-kind and financial support;
- Maintain and enhance relationships with colleagues in peer organisations.
- General
- Supportthe Director of Communications and the Executive Director on an ad-hoc basis as required;
- Work collaboratively with other ACF – Canada departments and colleagues in other ACF network HQs.;
- Cultivate and manage a strong volunteer community for ACF Canada;
- Participate in the planning of detailed strategic objectives and tactics for ACF – Canada;
- Keep fully abreast of new developments in direct marketing as well as legal requirements for fundraising especially regarding changes to CRA regulations and the data protection act to full compliance;
- Other appropriate tasks where identified.
Specific Conditions:
Staff work a five-day, 37.5-hour work week. However, the different tasks involved may sometime require irregular working hours, particularly in times of crisis. In addition to regular vacation allocations, ACF Canada offers generous time off during the end of year holiday period and summer. Occasional travel in Canada and abroad will also require flexibility. All ACF Canada employees are eligible for standard health and dental benefits after three months of employment.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Fundraising or Direct Marketing or other relevant discipline;
- Experienced Direct Marketing fundraising expert with 3+ years experience in INGO market in Canada;
- Demonstrated ability to lead effective, results-based individual giving programmes in Canada;
- Proven experience in data analysis with statistical understanding;
- Proven success in at least one of the following: donor acquisition, retention or regular donor development;
- Proven experience in reaching financial targets;
- Knowledge and understanding of on-line fundraising;
- Experience managing day to day relationships with external agencies;
- Strong track record of managing and developing relationships with individual donors;
- Bilingual English and French;
- Knowledge of the Canadian donor market as well as the regulations and rules related to donor privacy, reporting, etc, including IMAGINE Canada, AFP and CRA standards;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills;
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office especially Excel, Word, PPT; donor database programmes;
- Must have a passion for high impact international development;
- Highly motivated to build new markets and test new and creative ideas and tools;
- Strong ethical background;
- Legally able to work in Canada.
