Urban Physical/Spatial Planners

At present SIPU is seeking to broaden its consultant base in the field of urban (spatial) planning, to meet an expected increase in services to municipalities, regional and national level government organisations globally.

This announcement is not for a specific job, but interested individuals will be added to our consultant database and may be approached for positions that match their qualifications and experience.
Work almost always involves a combination of practical design skills (usually at the comprehensive or "master plan" level), advisory support, institutional and organisational development, and on-the-job training. The planner is usually part of a team, with a variety of international and national members.

Applicants are encouraged to use the EU CV format. We are willing to provide it if necessary. You can also download it from http://ec.europa.eu/europeaid/work/framework-contract/commission/documents/cv_model_en.doc
In addition applicants are encouraged to indicate their preferences or conditions for consideration in future positions - for example acceptable duration of assignments, locations, levels.

We are looking for candidates that, at a minimum:
  • have a Masters level degree in Urban Planning from an accredited university;
  • are registered members of a professional planning organisation (e.g. Institute of Town and Regional Planners);
  • have at least 5 years' experience with physical/spatial planning in a local government, or private architecture/planning company;
  • have proven experience of working well on interdisciplinary and multi-cultural teams;
  • have excellent and proven skills in oral and written communication in English;
  • are willing and able to work internationally (Africa, Asia, Balkans and Eastern Eu0rope, Central and South America) on short, medium or long term basis;
  • are fully computer literate (office suite of programs), and experienced in the use of CAD and GIS in urban planning contexts.

You are particularly interesting to us if you:
  • have team management experience;
  • project management experience;
  • speak/write fluently in an additional international language - Spanish, French, Chinese, Hindi, KiSwahile as examples;
  • have proven experience in applying the principles of sustainable development to urban design and management.
