Save the children is seeking to recruit a Regional Programme Officer for Child Rights Governance. The Programme officer willensure the implementation of the Child Rights Governance programme with a focus on strengthening the organizational capacity and child rights practice of Save the Children’s partners. The position will promote children’s rights and child rights programming, and children’s participation, with partners and other actors in Southern Africa. The role will require you to interact with international and African human rights mechanism in close collaboration with partner organisations.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Programme Management:Responsible for implementing the Thematic Programme on Child Rights Governance and ensuring the achievement of the programme objectives.
Advocacy and Analysis: Develop a network of external contacts through which to inform and promote our work.
Relationship management with partners: Responsible for joint planning and ongoing relationship with partner as well as follow-up of agreements with partners.
4Budget holding:Responsible for developing and managing the programme department budget, including authorising expenditure in line with the budget and scheme of delegation.
Fundraising:Contribute to developing project proposals, to finance the program.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
· University degree in human rights law, law or journalism or other education related to development and human rights.
· At least 6 years qualified work experience similar to the tasks above.
· Knowledge of and experience in working with children’s rights and human rights.
· Experience in advocacy
· Experience with working closely with Government, community groups, UN agencies and local and international NGOS.
· Strong analytical, conceptual and organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
· Good interpersonal skills: the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels, taking into account cultural and language difficulties.
· Ability to work in a team, both as participant and leader.
· Strong networking skills and ability to work in a team.
· Sound knowledge of publishing, design and printing processes and related information and communication technologies.
· Excellent writing skills
· Driver’s License
Desirable :
· Photographic experience.
· Experience in fundraising activities is beneficial
· Understanding of and experience in project cycle management is beneficial
· Portuguese language skills
