School of Clinical and Experimental Medicine
College of Medical and Dental Sciences
Fixed term for 36 months
Applications are invited from outstanding individuals with ambition to develop their independent research to work under the supervision of Professor Ferenc Mueller, Professor of Developmental Genetics, on a Human Frontier Science Program Grant: The causes and consequences of sperm mediated non-genetic inheritance. The Mueller laboratory studies gene regulation in vertebrate development from different angles and using interdisciplinary approaches. For recent publications and topics of research see: www.birmingham.ac.uk/Ferenc-Mueller. Their research is integrated in the Birmingham Centre for Genome Biology www.birmingham.ac.uk/genome-biology. In this project the fellow will study the molecular mechanisms underlying environmentally induced transgenerational phenotypic variation for our understanding of the evolutionary causes and consequences of epigenetic inheritance. The successful candidate will combine programmable genome editing in zebrafish with temporal epigenome and transcriptome analyses and embryo phenotyping.
The successful applicant will have a first degree and a PhD in an area of specialism relevant to the project. They will also have strong background in molecular biology and genetic engineering tools, and previous experience with epigenetics/epigenomics in a model organism and/or in vivo imaging.
