Media management is critical to raising the profile of the Commonwealth and the work of the Secretariat. Reporting to the Director of Communications and managing a small professional team, the Head will cultivate and maintain sound relations with media outlets and journalists around the world and ensure that they are used effectively to communicate and demonstrate the relevance of the Commonwealth to a wide audience.
With a Master’s degree or its equivalent in communications, journalism, media studies, or international affairs, you must have at least ten years’ senior-level experience in communications, public information or media roles. A creative and strategic thinker, you must have good management, organisational and communication skills and proven ability to produce results under pressure.
Key tasks include designing and delivering a media strategy and implementation plan; communicating pro-actively with the media; overseeing the preparation of concise messages and internal communications; organising press briefings and conferences; working closely with senior colleagues to ensure that consistent messaging and brand identity is well executed; and supporting the production and overseeing the distribution of media advisories, press releases, statements, presentations and speeches.
As the inter-governmental body of the Commonwealth, comprising 53 independent sovereign states, we provide sustainable and people-centered democracy and development through professional advice, transfer of best practice and the enhancement of skills and knowledge.
To be considered, you must be a citizen of a Commonwealth country.
