Assistant Professor in Media and Journalism

Position Summary
KIMEP University College of Social Sciences, Department of Media, invites applications for faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is 12-month (including vacation period) full-time academic appointment to begin August 2017. Responsibilities involve teaching, research, scholarly activities, advising, field liaison and service. The department offers professional and theoretical courses in Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, Media Management and Communication.
We seek a talented teacher and innovative scholar who is actively engaged in research and enthusiastic about teaching baccalaureate and master’s degree students and serving the University, local communities and the profession. We are looking for a productive and cooperative colleague who will bring new perspectives to theory, research and practice in media and journalism.
Minimum Qualifications
Expertise is required in at least two of the following fields: Media Management, Public Relations, Advertising, Journalism, New Media, or Communication Research. Familiarity with CIS countries or similar international experience is welcome. Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Media, Journalism, or Communications from an internationally-recognized, accredited university or equivalent professional qualifications. ABD’s will be considered who meet the position qualifications and include in their application materials a letter from the dissertation chair confirming defense date prior to the position start date. Candidates must have a record of scholarship, which includes published research in refereed journals and/or books.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants with track record of demonstrated competence in teaching face to face and on-line will be given extra consideration.
The College of Social Sciences
The College of Social Sciences has an accomplished faculty of 29 full-time and nine part-time faculty and four dedicated administrative staff. The College includes the departments of Media and Communication, Public Administration, International Relations and Economics.

Compensation
Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after-tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries. Limited on-campus housing is available to rent. In addition to salary, a benefits package includes basic healthcare, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses, subsidy for children’s school tuition and relocation allowance. New faculty members are provided with a reduced teaching schedule during the first semester. Summer paid teaching is typically available.
