Director Communications Based in Amsterdam

Fairfood International is a global movement campaigning for the use of sustainable practices within food production chains worldwide. We strive to achieve this by advocating the use of standards and sustainability initiatives to brand owners within the food and beverage industry.

Department

The Communications Department's main responsibility is to support Fairfood's advocacy towards brand owners. The department does this by generating public pressure after a request from the advocacy department in alignment with its ongoing advocacy trajectory and by creating constant public pressure for Fairfood's issues among the various target groups. The department is directed by the Director Communications and is responsible for 4 core projects: E-campaigning, Public Relations, Website and Corporate Identity, (plus additional projects depending on funding). Each project is led by a manager and each manager is assisted by two to four unpaid interns.

Function

As Director Communications, you play a vital role in the development and execution of Fairfood's communication policy. You are responsible for the international communication strategy of the department, with a strong focus on online media and e-campaigning (e.g. via Facebook and Twitter). You lead, direct and manage the Communication Department, which is composed of employees working mainly in Amsterdam, and (potentially) in other offices abroad. One of your main tasks will be proactively acquiring and maintaining a large international network of communication partners (crowdsourcing) that supports Fairfood's goals. You visit important contacts and actively pursue fundraising and sponsoring opportunities. As a member of Fairfood's team of Directors, you are also responsible for the development of Fairfood's long-range policy strategies and representing Fairfood International at international worldwide conferences worldwide (beyond your role as Director Communications).

Your competences

You have a Bachelor or Master Degree and several years of relevant managerial experience. You also have experience working in the field of online communication and e-campaigning. You are an excellent and efficient networker and have a wide range of contacts among relevant international experts. You are result-oriented and able to set priorities and have excellent organizational skills. You also possess excellent verbal and written skills in English. Obviously, you have affinity with Fairfood's goals. Fairfood strives to ensure its Directors team is representative of its international workforce, comprising of both men and women from different backgrounds. Therefore preference will be given to international and female candidates.

What we offer?

We offer a versatile position within a young international organisation. You will have the freedom and opportunity to continue developing yourself and achieve tangible results. The gross annual salary (including holiday allowance) is fixed at €45,750.10 based on a 40-hour work week.
