PRESIDENT - Franklin College Switzerland

Franklin College Switzerland (Franklin), an independent, nonprofit, American liberal arts college located in Lugano, Switzerland and designed to provide a high quality, international educational experience for students from every corner of the globe, is seeking an exceptional leader as the next president of this intentionally exceptional institution.

Since its founding in 1969 Franklin has been guided by a compelling vision that a quality post-secondary education demands exposure to and immersion in the larger world. Today the reality of globalization and the immediacy of the digital age demand that internationalization be embedded at the core of higher education everywhere. Universities, large and small, within and outside the United States, are challenged to adapt and incorporate what Franklin has accurately labeled the "international imperative." Franklin has been successfully responding to this imperative for decades and has the experience and assets to provide leadership to the broader education sector on this important issue. As an intentionally small, high quality, fully accredited college offering a four-year baccalaureate degree, Franklin has attracted some of the most adventurous students, creative faculty, resourceful administrators and dedicated trustees, and today occupies a leadership position in higher education that is the envy of institutions of far greater size and resources.

The successful candidate for this unique leadership position in higher education will be expected to leverage Franklin's experience and human assets to address the challenges and opportunities the college faces in stabilizing and building its financial resources, enhancing the excellence of its educational programs, including adding one or more post-baccalaureate degree programs, maintaining Franklin's exceptionally good relations with the local Ticinese community, and raising Franklin's profile as a leader in meeting the "international imperative" for higher education. Franklin seeks a president with a deep understanding of and commitment to the value of a private, intentionally small, internationally focused, residential, liberal arts college with the ability to articulate the unique mission of Franklin in a world of rapidly changing expectations among students, their parents, faculty and others in the academic community, alumni, and the general public.
