SENIOR RESEARCH SCHOLAR/RESEARCH SCHOLAR IN MEDICAL ANTHROPOLOGY

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to initiate, establish and develop research programs leading to improved understanding of socio-cultural, biological, psychological and historical factors that shape disease behaviour, experiences and distribution patterns including pluralistic healing practices in northern Botswana and Kgalagadi regions. The candidate is expected to teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in the field of medical anthropology; prepare special program/s which integrates social science and natural science approaches to anthropology of health. Relevant research issues include the political economy of healthcare provision, vulnerability and responsibility for illness, political ecology of infectious, vector-borne and chronic diseases, ethnomedicine and globalization, pre and postcolonial health policies and service delivery systems in southern African.

Requirements: Senior Research Scholar: Candidates should have the following qualifications and experience: (i) A PhD or equivalent qualification in Medical anthropology or related fields of epidemiology, public health, social work, history, archaeology, psychology, medicine and nursing with specialization in medical anthropology (ii) at least one year’s experience at the rank of Research Scholar level ;(iii) Minimum of 10 published research products and/and or creative work ; at least 7 of these in refereed journal articles; lead and/or single author in at least 3 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (iv) Evidence of academic leadership and of service to the university, profession and community will be added advantages. Research Scholar: A PhD or equivalent qualification in Medical Anthropology or related fields of epidemiology, public health, social work, history, archaeology, psychology, medicine and nursing with specialisation in medical anthropology(ii) university teaching experience or equivalent will be an added advantage; (iii) evidence of engagement in research and academic leadership will be an added advantage.
