Assistant Research Coordinator, Research and Knowledge Group

The Transparency International Secretariat in Berlin is seeking a highly motivated professional for the position of Assistant Research Coordinator for the Research & Knowledge Group.

Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.

The Research Department at the Transparency International-Secretariat develops and implements cutting-edge research tools on corruption, accountability and transparency as well as supports the wider TI movement in its evidence-based advocacy work. The Assistant Research Coordinator will offer general administrative and research support to the Research team with a focus on background research, internet-based search assignments, report review/editing and quantitative data analysis.

Job Description

Job grade: Assistant Programme Coordinator

Job Objectives: To support the Transparency International Secretariat’s Research team with research assistance, administrative assistance and small-scale independent research tasks.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Support the National Integrity System Assessments with review of draft reports and background research;
  • Support the GATEway project with internet scan for (anti-)corruption assessment tools, codifyng and data inputing;
  • Support TI’s Global Measurement Tools (Corruption Perception Index, Bribe Payers Index, Global Corruption Barometer) with background research on data sources, compiling of relevant data and other relevant tasks;
  • Conduct background research and scoping studies on emerging corruption and integrity issues;
  • Review, clean and analyse quantitative datasets on corruption
  • Work on visualization and presentation of quantitative as well as qualitative data;
  • Provide administrative assistance to the research team (e.g. processing payments; budget review)

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Advanced degree in relevant field (e.g. Development Studies, Economics, Political Science, Sociology)
  • Experience in quantitative data analysis
  • Some knowledge of current anti-corruption discourse, policies and international developments
  • Good research and English-language writing skills; editing experience preferred
  • Some experience in working/volunteering for an organisation, particularly an NGO
  • Foreign language skills a plus, particularly Spanish
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft office, SPSS or STATA)
