Associate Country Director – Cambodia

Oxfam GB – Asia Region

Location : Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Contract Type : Global Level B2

Oxfam started working in Cambodia in 1979. We work in partnership with other NGOs, civil society, the Royal Government of Cambodia, and other development agencies to help the Cambodian people overcome poverty and suffering. Our programme in the country includes promoting women’s rights and empowerment in the areas of sustainable rural livelihoods, good governance, and disaster management.

The role

In this wide-ranging role working closely with the Regional Programme Manager, you’ll develop a long term programme that will have a big impact on our work in Cambodia. It’s about thinking strategically and planning ahead – taking into consideration future in-country developments, seeing to it that we’re maximising our resources and efforts, and making necessary changes along the way. But your success will hinge as much on the partnerships you develop as the operational work involved. So as well as leading programme staff in the effective roll out of the programme, you’ll build relationships with the official authorities, donor agencies, a whole host of national and international organisations and local communities too – creating strong links and establishing Oxfam as an influential agency. Put simply, it will be down to you to make sure our work here is a success and that it has the greatest possible impact on poverty and injustice in the long term.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with experience in developing and managing large-scale programmes within the NGO sector. You’ll certainly have led and motivated teams before, driving change and inspiring others to make a real difference, while strong communication skills mean you’ll have no problem building and managing donor and partner relationships. Specialist humanitarian and advocacy skills are important, as is the ability to manage the day-to-day challenges that come from a role like this – everything from budget management to staff development. And as well as being analytical, flexible and fluent in English, you’ll have the credibility and gravitas to positively represent Oxfam at all levels.

About Oxfam

A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
