The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is a non-partisan American public policy and grant-making institution dedicated to promoting better understanding and cooperation between North America and Europe on transatlantic and global issues.

Job Summary:

The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) seeks an energetic, detail-oriented full-time intern (unpaid) to assist with all aspects of the Marshall Memorial Fellowship program (MMF), GMF’s premier Fellowship for emerging leaders from the United States and Europe. Upcoming projects include the Fall American and European fellowship programs, the Marshall Forum alumni conference, and preparation for the program’s 30th anniversary in 2012. Other projects may arise.

This internship is unpaid but offers an ideal opportunity to acquire substantive professional experience for those interested in a career in public policy or international affairs. GMF offers a stimulating, supportive work environment. Interest in the programs and priorities of the German Marshall Fund is essential. The position is open to qualified candidates who possess strong writing and organizational skills as well as an interest in US-European relations.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
  • Assisting with organizing the Fellows’ agendas, travel, and accommodations;
  • Assisting with organizing the alumni conference;
  • Database maintenance;
  • Providing administrative support to the MMF Staff; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student studying International Development, Economics, International Trade, Agriculture, or International Relations. Recent graduates will also be considered.
  • Have excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Be creative, organized, self-directed and responsible.
  • Have excellent organizational skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Be comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Possess a background/interest in diplomacy, transatlantic relations, or fellowship programming.
  • Have interest in the programs and priorities of the German Marshall Fund.
  • Have knowledge of a European language.
Start and Duration of Internship:
  • Preferred starting date: ASAP
  • Preferred time commitment: At least 20 hours per week during the standard 9-5 workday
