Senior Analyst Egypt

LOCATION: Cairo, Egypt

REPORTS TO: Project Director, Egypt

Role: The successful candidate will research and produce reports on security, conflict, political, governance, human rights and social issues as these relate to Egypt. The senior analyst will carry out extensive research and advocacy for Crisis Group from Cairo. The position requires strong field research, analysis, drafting and editing skills, political awareness and an understanding of conflict dynamics and peace building issues.

Responsibilities: • Provides analysis and advice on the key issues linked to the political, social and security issues affecting Egypt; • Conducts extensive field research into prevailing security, social and political conditions; • Proposes policy initiatives by the relevant governmental and non-governmental actors to address the underlying issues that feed grievances; • Prepares detailed reports and briefing papers setting out relevant research findings and policy recommendations.

Requirements: • Deep knowledge of and extensive contacts in Egypt with governmental and nongovernmental officials, media, and academia; • 7+ years of professional experience in conflict analysis, journalism, NGO, IGO, or government work related to Egypt in particular; • Excellent writing and analytical skills, good in summarizing vast amounts of written material; • Fluency in English and Arabic required; • Excellent writing and analytical skills.
