The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the United Nations agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
UN-Habitat, is seeking qualified candidates for the Senior Position of Director, Regional Office for Arab States (D-1). Under the direct supervision of the Head, Project Office and directly reporting to the Office of the Deputy Executive Director for all political and representative matters, the candidate will be responsible for policy-making, programme development and implementation and management and supervision of the Office.
The ideal candidate should have an advanced university degree (Masters) in Urban and Regional Planning, Housing or Social Sciences relevant to development and management of human settlements. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. The candidate should have at least 15 years of relevant work experience in multidisciplinary human settlements development work, of which at least 10 years in the international arena. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat and for this post fluency in written and oral English and Arabic is required. Working knowledge of French would be an advantage.
