Media Relations Specialist in Washington, DC or Research Triangle Park, NC

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Media Relations Specialist in Washington, DC or Research Triangle Park, NC.

Position Description:

Assists with establishing global media relations and information management for company. Coordinates the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and practices with disseminating information about company programs and projects with media outlets, throughout the organization and country offices. Interacts with department managers and subject matter experts to ensure consistency of information regarding key company projects, achievements, and goals.

  • Identifies, develops, and pitches relevant stories about the organization to appropriate media outlets.
  • Provides support and recommendations to executive management and country offices on media related issues.
  • Ensures company is positioned as a leading global health and development organization among media outlets.
  • Serves as project manager on special media initiatives and coordinates activities to achieve desired results.
  • Collaborates and leads media initiatives that support the strategic goals and vision of the organization.
  • Assists and supports other communication related projects and programs as needed.
  • Working knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures with public relations and communication functions.
  • Exercises judgment within broadly defined policies and procedures to select methods, techniques to perform duties.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in Communications, Public Health, or related field. Typically requires 5-8 years of media relations experience. Demonstrated experience with international programs required. Master’s degree or its international equivalent in Communications, Public Health, or related field.

Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff. Prior experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO).
