Principal - European University Institute

The European University Institute (EUI) announces that the position of Principal will be vacant from September 2013. The appointment is for a period of 5 years, renewable for another 3 years.

A distinctly international organization, the EUI was founded in 1972 by the original Member States of the European Communities to provide advanced academic training and promote advanced research with a European focus in the areas of Economics, Law, Political Science and Sociology, and History.

The EUI Principal directs the Institute in cooperation with professors, researchers and administrative staff and should:

  • be an internationally recognized scholar, preferably in one of the EUI’s disciplines;
  • have a good understanding of European affairs;
  • have senior management competence and experience, preferably acquired in a university or other high‐level research institution, or have held positions of responsibility at a national or international level;
  • have experience of working in an international context;
  • demonstrate an ability to promote the EUI in different arenas.

Responsibilities of the Principal will include the management of cultural diversity, for which proficiency in at least two European languages will be an asset.
