Program Manager

Summary:

The purpose of this position is to serve as program manager for ongoing plague projects Zoonotics Disease Cooperative Agreement between the Uganda Virus Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Applicants are required to have professional knowledge of epidemiology and/or related biological science sufficient to independently perform reoccurring, well-defined ecology and epidemiology projects. Applicants are also required to have Supervisor and Management experience.

Major Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will initiate, conduct and oversee complex epidemiology, surveillance, ecology, prevention, care and laboratory projects supported by the UVRI/CDC Plague Program in both Entebbe and Arua. The incumbent provides advice and consultation on medical, epidemiological and disease control issues, coordinates multiple projects and communicates and liaises with MoH, UVRI, UNHRO and CDC staff regarding these projects. The Manager will be responsible for the oversight of epidemiology, surveillance and ecology activities, Scientific and Ethics Committee approvals and financial/logistics management with approval of the UVRI Director. Routine travel to Arua is required.

The Manager will participate in plague disease outbreaks and write reports on research results for presentation at national and international conferences and meetings: Additionally he/ she will participate in national and international conferences, meetings, and workshops including participating in National Taskforce meetings

Requirement:

  • Minimum qualifications include 1.) Bachelors in Medicine or Veterinary Medicine with a Master of Science or Public Health OR. 2) a Bachelor of Science (or related field) and a graduate degree in Medicine or Veterinary Medicine or Public Health
  • OR 3) a Ph.D. in entomology, zoology, biology, public health or related field. Applicants must also have: 1) either at least 5 years of management experience in a public health field OR 2) less than 5 years management experience combined with a diploma or degree in management or related field. The position also requires at least 5 years of experience in public health, (for example: monitoring and evaluation, epidemiology, ecology, surveillance, program policy/management, international health or health education).
