Brief description: DFID has a number of anticipated vacancies for senior climate and environment advisers in country or regional programmes and a vacant climate and environment adviser post (A2) in Conflict, Humanitarian and Security Department (CHASE) and Middle East and North Africa Department (MENAD) based in East Kilbride.

DFID has a number of anticipated vacancies for senior climate and environment advisers in country or regional programmes and a vacant climate and environment adviser post (A2) in Conflict, Humanitarian and Security Department (CHASE) and Middle East and North Africa Department (MENAD) based in East Kilbride.

Many vacancies will be based overseas, in fragile environments. DFID Climate and Environment advisers play a major role in analysis and the formulation of policies for country aid strategy; establishing close and constructive relationships and networks with partners in country, regionally and internationally – dependent on the nature of a specific job;
identification, design, commissioning and monitoring the implementation and impact of projects, programmes and policies in areas covered by DFID’s climate and environment advisers on agendas such as poverty alleviation, green growth, low carbon development, disaster risk reduction, natural resource scarcity, climate change finance etc.;
design and monitoring the impact of climate and environment aspects of projects, programmes and policies in other priority areas for development such as governance and conflict, health, education, infrastructure and livelihoods;
working with other Whitehall departments on a broad range of climate change and environment related issues (including areas such as forestry, climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, pollution control, water, biodiversity, ecosystems services, natural resource management, strategic environmental assessments and environmental impact assessments) relevant to developing countries.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate the appropriate technical competences and experience in the selection process, drawing on their familiarity with policy guidance, best practice guidelines and practical examples from experience in which they have been involved.

Relocation support may be available where successful candidates are required to move home to take up post
