Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build expertise on one of three core sectors of business: Trade and PSD; Environment and Energy; and Governance;
  • Identify trends, technical changes and developments in your sector with a particular focus on the EU;
  • Drive a pipeline of new business opportunities in accordance with EC procurement rules and regulations;
  • Lead proposal bid teams and ensure a high standard of quality throughout;
  • Identify, organise and lead reconnaissance efforts in target countries;
  • Oversee recruitment drives for key positions within prospective project teams;
  • Lead negotiations and form business partnerships with partners and experts;
  • Identify resource requirements, and formulate and manage budgets accordingly;
  • Oversee all financial and contractual matters pertaining to the EC procurement process;
  • Lead or contribute to technically sound and client -focused proposal writing;
  • Manage and coordinate a small team of support staff;
  • Build and maintain relationships with partner organisations;
  • Strategise winning approaches to bid opportunities.

Corporate initiatives:

  • Represent DAI at conferences or other public events;
  • Initiate and lead the organisation of strategic seminal/marketing/promotional events and meetings.

Consulting services:

  • Undertake short-term technical assignments, typically ranging from one to six weeks, providing consulting services in the field as well as high quality technical reports, assessments, and recommendations as requested.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience in one of three core sectors of business: Trade and PSD; Environment and Energy; and Governance;
  • Experience supporting business development activities with an international development focus;
  • Good understanding of proposal development process, project management systems and best practices;
  • Experience with some or all of the key business development processes: technical writing, recruitment, negotiation, and budget formulation;
  • Experience working in compliance with EC Procurement rules;
  • Project management/ consultancy experience would be considered an asset;
  • Excellent planning and coordination skills;
  • Strong research and analytical skills;
  • Some experience leading reconnaissance efforts and building contacts and networks in your core sector;
  • Excellent ability to communicate effectively (written and spoken) in English essential and at least one other language of the EU, specifically French, Spanish and/or Portuguese languages is highly desirable;
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a rapidly changing environment;
  • Pro-active, assertive and action-oriented with strong intellectual agility and ability;
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines;
  • Experience managing a team as well as being a team player;
  • Advanced level of Microsoft Office.

Education:

MBA or Masters in Economics, International Development, Law, International Relations or in a related field to that of your chosen core sector, with a minimum of 2 years progressively responsible work experience in international development.
