SUMMARY

Cuso International’s objective for this Project is to provide access to resources and capacity building for regional and local governments and communities in Bolivia, Colombia and Peru, to identify, plan, and manage development projects that address the social and environmental dimensions of the extractive sector and create sustainable economic development.

One Field Technical Coordinator will be potentially recruited in each of the three country specified above. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Field Technical Coordinator will have overall responsibility for the field-based

operations of the Project, including the management of field -based financial and human resources and Project assets. The Field Technical Coordinator will also be responsible for the adoption and promotion of (i) inclusive participation; (ii)

greening of operations; (iii) good governance; and (iv) managing for results as fundamental project principles. He/she will develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the Project Manager and provide technical direction, managerial and administrative support services to the Project. Please note that the position will be created only if funding for it is secured.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Day-to-day management of in-country operations in order to achieve the Project’s expected outcomes, and implement its activities on time and within budget;

• Participating in the preparation of the Project Implementation Plan;
• Assisting in the development of the sustainability strategy and plan;

• Assisting in the development of the communication and/or engagement strategy and plan;
• Providing input to other required reports and plans as per the Project Reporting Requirements;
• Developing effective relationship with partners and stakeholders;

• Facilitating dialogue and collaboration among partners and stakeholders that contribute to the achievement of Project expected results;

• Coordinating and liaising with Project partners such as government agencies, community organizations and other donors involved in CSR. This might include liaising with key national, provincial and district level decision-makers with respect to policies and strategies;

• Coordinating and sharing information with the Local Fund Coordinator;

• Providing analysis and guidance on Project issues related to government institutions, civil society and community development including needs for capacity development ;

• Collaborating as required with the CSR Advisor to ensure coherence and synergies, and that Project outputs are achieved;

• Following-up and monitoring Project activities to ensure that they are executed according to the work plans, on time and within budget, and that they deliver the expected outputs for the achievement of Project results;

• Identifying and resolving problems, and identifying and managing risks;
• Writing reports, contextual analyses, and other documents, as requested by the Project Manager;
• Providing logistical support to the short-term missions of the Project Manager, Canadian personnel, and others as required;
• Assisting in sourcing and contracting local project staff;

• Procuring goods and services required for the Project and working closely with Project advisors and specialists;

• Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with partners and stakeholders.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

• Master degree in project management, social sciences, economics, business administration, geology, mining or petroleum engineering, environmental science or environmental management.

• Minimum of 8 years of professional experience.

• More than 5 years of experience working with governments in the areas of natural resource management and community development, including planning and delivering sustainable development projects.

• More than 5 years of experience working in multi-years development projects on Corporate Social Responsibility, in the extractive sector, and at the field level for large ($5 million or more).

• More than 5 years of experience working with governments in the areas of natural resource management and community development, including planning and delivering sustainable development projects.

• Several years of experience in conflict mitigation.

• Several years of experience in organizing regional conferences, and dialogue and consultation mechanisms.

• Several years of experience in training and coaching a diversity of stakeholders groups such as national and subnational and/or regional governments and government ministries, and civil society organizations.

• Experience using participatory and collaborative approaches, with multiple stakeholders (including the private sector), within multidisciplinary teams.

• Experience using Results-Based Management (RBM) principles and tools.

• Experience in integrating the crosscutting themes of gender equality, governance and/or environmental sustainability, preferably all three.

• Experience in transferring technical knowledge and building capacities in your
• field of expertise.

• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to negotiate with multiple stakeholders and external organizations
• Diplomacy, patience and tact
• Good time management, planning and priority-setting skills, and attention to detail
• Commitment to teamwork

• Proven commitment to mainstreaming Gender and equality issues within work and ability to coach and mentor staff in this aspect of performance

• Willingness to travel and work irregular hours from time to time, as necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position.
