IDRC President
The International Development Research Centre (IDRC), a Canadian Crown corporation, supports research in developing regions of the world to promote growth and development. The result is innovative, lasting local solutions that bring choice and change to those who need it most. For over 40 years, IDRC has helped researchers and innovators around the world find new ways to build healthier and more prosperous societies. This scientific and technical know-how has enriched the lives of people in developing countries — often in dramatic ways. It is within this exciting context that the organization is seeking to recruit its next President.
The President is the Chief Executive Officer of IDRC and a member of the Board of Governors. As the Chief Executive Officer, he/she is responsible for the supervision and direction of the work and staff of IDRC, and leads the organization in fulfilling its mandate to help developing countries use science and knowledge to find practical, long-term solutions to the social, economic, and environmental problems they face.
As the ideal candidate, you have a demonstrated track record harnessing the potential of gifted individuals to create dynamic and highly effective management teams. A confident and respected leader, you are known for your strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, and have a good knowledge of, and interest in, Canadian public policy and the Canadian federal government. You have experience in international development, significant knowledge of, and interest in, the challenges facing developing regions of the world, and have experience leading multi-disciplinary decentralized and geographically dispersed organizations. You are a gifted communicator, and flourish in environments that require strategic thinking and constant innovation. You are a leader of great personal and professional integrity, have experience interacting with a board, and will be a passionate advocate for the IDRC and its mission. Proficiency in English and French is preferred.
