Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide overall administrative support to the International Accounting unit, under the direction of the International Accounting Management. Such support will include the maintenance of the Foundation’s wire log and serving as the primary point of contact for filing general journal entries and compliance documentation generated and received by the unit.
  • Provide general accounting support and oversight to up to one EGPAF country offices overseas, including reviewing and performing monthly reconciliations. Under the supervision of an assigned mentor, serve as the primary point of contact within EGPAF/Washington for accounting-related matters in assigned country offices. Liaise directly with internationally-based Finance Managers and/or Accountants. Participate in in-country training activities under the close supervision and direction of senior staff.
  • As required by the country assignment, review and process sub-grantee cash requests. Prepare journal entries for sub-grantee expenses, including all necessary documentation and advance and expense reconciliations. Research and correct errors when needed.
  • As required by the country assignment, review country office expenses and make sure that proper documentations are submitted to substantiate allow ability and allocation of cost. On a monthly basis, accurately and efficiently process these expenses into the foundation’s general ledger. Assign appropriate GL account codes to allocate cost to appropriate expense item and correct funding source. Follow-up with country offices to ensure compliance with federal regulations and/or foundation policies, as required.
  • Assist the accounting department in their monthly close by efficiently and promptly processing the monthly financial reports from assigned EGPAF country offices.
  • As required, assist with the foundation’s annual audit(s). Assist in obtaining and reviewing proper documentation for allowable and allocable expenditure activities for all federally funded expenses.
  • When needed, research expenses, shared services, or other items affecting program activities.

  • Assist International Accounting Management and Controller with other administrative functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree required.
  • Three years of professional experience, preferably in a related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge, experience and familiarity with federal compliance rules, regulations and standards associated with federal funding and non-profit accounting, such as A-110, A-133, A-122, FAR and 22CFR226.
  • Understand, utilize and assess chart of accounts for proper reporting of fund tracking to various funding sources, allowable and non-allowable expenses, projects, activities, departments and functions.
  • Experience working internationally and strong cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Ability to travel internationally to assist with in-country accounting trainings or other accounting-related ad hoc assignments under close supervision by senior staff.
  • Experience in operation and automated accounting systems.
  • MS Great Plains Dynamics, MS Excel and Word skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while working as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • French or Portuguese language skills desired
