Leading Hand: Mine Geology AngloGold Ashanti

AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents. AGA employs over 62,000 people globally. In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager. Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%. The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.

Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project). Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.

We are now seeking an experienced Leading Hand to join our Mine Geology Team at the Tropicana Gold Mine.

Accountable to the Mine Geology Coordinator, this role is responsible for supervising the day to day activities of the Mine Geology Technicians and the allocation of resources as prioritised and directed by the Mine Geology Coordinator to enable efficient execution of mining related programs. This role is based at the Tropicana Gold Mine on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth.

The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:

• Monitor and train Mine Geological Technicians in Work Packages relating to Sample Bag Preparation, Sample Pick Up and Delivery, Drill Pad Set Out, Ore Mark Up and Spotting and QA/QC protocols.
• Perform audits as required and complete actions assigned to you arising from these or other audits, incident reports and weekly departmental meetings within the required timeframe.
• Prepare areas for GC Drilling programs.
• Ensure that all consumables are available for the drill contractor.
• Demonstrate Mine Geology activities to new employees to introduce them to the way work is completed and so that work can be completed safely and in accordance with TGM policies and procedures.
• Operate field computers, generate samples files and upload drill hole and sample data into the Geology Server as required.
• Ensure adequate supply of sample consumables is maintained for all Mine Geology Department.
• Liaise and coordinate with the onsite laboratory contractor in regards to sample volumes, delivery/ timing and Automated Sample Preparation.
• In conjunction with the Mine Geology Coordinator and Survey, assist in setting out and picking Survey points, including but not limited to waste dumps, stockpiles, drill hole locations and excavations.
• Assist and coordinate Blast Movement Monitoring using Blast Movement Technology.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Extensive experience working in an Open Pit Mine Environment
• Experience in leading a team of Mine Geology Technicians
• Have the ability to train and assess Mine Geology Technicians
• Coordinate/monitor daily work schedules for Mine Geological Technicians
• Experience using GPS
• Experience in using SAP software
• High level of written and oral communication skills
• Control stock levels via inventory control, restocking and forward planning
• Knowledge of computer software - Microsoft Windows
• Competent off-road 4WD operation
• Current Senior First Aid Certificate
