Across the world, Oxfam responds to natural disasters, conflict and humanitarian emergencies affecting millions of people. Our Campaigns team brings together policy, advocacy, media and popular mobilisation to create immediate change in crises and long-term difference to people affected by emergencies. As well as sending water engineers as soon as part of a rapid emergency response, we also need a Campaigns and Advocacy Manager to mobilise people and organisations to persuade governments, the UN and the international community to do what is needed to save lives and livelihoods.

About the role With deployments normally ranging from 3 - 6 months, this roving post is a unique opportunity to work in a range of countries on humanitarian issues. You’ll be deployed to disasters where there is the greatest need for clear and rapid leadership of our campaigns strategy, identifying issues that need tackling, influencing the international agenda, building networks of support and persuading decision-makers to do what is needed. You will make strategic judgements on the best approaches and channels for change in difficult environments.

You’ll get straight to the heart of issues, quickly analysing the key issues and establishing a strong team to design and deliver strategies that effectively persuade responsible governments, global publics and key international institutions to act. You’ll need to use your quick and decisive judgement to secure opportunities, manage risk, and shape and influence opinion. You will bring together a network of partner organisations and Oxfam offices around one clear and inspiring strategy. At the same, you’ll be a spokesperson for Oxfam for international media and high profile events. Deployments may also take you to disaster-prone countries or chronic crises where you’ll need the leadership skills to work on long-term planning and capacity building at a grassroots level.

About you You’ll have proven experience of leading teams on humanitarian issues, as well as a deep understanding of inspiring change at country and international levels. Your humanitarian background will be supported by your ability to deliver creative and effective campaigns that maximise popular mobilisation, media and policy in difficult and rapidly changing environments. Your understanding of global trends, audiences and power dynamics and how these affect crisis-affected communities will be crucial for effecting real change. You will have a proven track record in leading multi-disciplinary cross-cultural teams, communicating a compelling argument to a wide range of audiences and be able to demonstrate a clear track record of impact. You will be a calm, adaptable and sensitive team player with excellent inter-personal skills, able to lead, support and consult colleagues in pressurised contexts and provide a vision to a global team. Willing to travel at short notice, often to difficult circumstances. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential and fluency in French is desirable.
