Grade/Salary: £70,000 to £120,000 per annum (pro-rata if applicable)

The Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment seeks to appoint a Senior Research Fellow in Environmental Economics, to start before 1 July 2013. The post is fixed-term for 5 years. A part-time appointment is possible with a pro rata salary.

Main duties: The successful applicant will provide, in the Smith School, senior academic leadership within the academic area of economics as it pertains to enterprise and the environment. They will lead economic research and teaching and will work with colleagues in various dedicated research, teaching and engagement areas. The postholder will engage effectively with business leaders, stakeholders and policy makers in areas related to environmental responsibility and investment. The postholder will line-manage colleagues whose specialisms fall within the postholder’s academic areas. It is expected that the postholder will be a strong contributor to securing sustainable income.

Skills, qualifications and/or experience needed: We are looking for the best possible candidate, of professorial level ability and quality, and a leading authority in environmental economics. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to operate with credibility across a number of academic sub-disciplines relating to environmental economics; outstanding publication record as first/main author in refereed international journals; understanding and knowledge of policy and economics; experience in developing and implementing academic research strategies; entrepreneurial aptitude about the environmental research and knowledge needs of enterprise, and in raising research income; a collaborative approach to out-reach, teaching, and research; experience of attracting and managing research income, projects and collaborations; understanding of, and ability to develop rigorous research models and methods to inform and achieve policy- and practise-relevant solutions to major environmental challenges.
