Department
BBC Learning, established in 1924, is at the heart of the BBC’s overall aim to inform, educate and entertain. It’s our mission to inspire a life full of learning for all our audiences. As a department we play a central part in meeting the BBC's purpose of promoting education and learning. We co-commission a substantial portfolio of programmes and produce a range of learning resources delivered online, on-air and through face-to-face activities that connect, create and magnify powerful opportunities across the entire BBC to inspire all audiences. The department is also home to a comprehensive specialist learning offering that includes key brands such as Bitesize, Skillswise, and Class Clips.
Helping our audience to understand and participate in an increasingly digital world is one of the BBC’s core public purposes. Learning is looking for an experienced producer to deliver the BBC’s contribution to a UK-wide media literacy project which will be run in partnership with several internal and external stakeholders. The producer will also be the BBC’s main point of contact for those partners - and will be responsible for managing the relationships with them on a day-to-day basis, under the supervision of an editor.
Since the move to Salford, BBC Learning’s media literacy team has delivered a series of high-profile partnership projects, including February’s ShareTakeCare with Radio 1, CBBC and ChildNet UK. As a founder partner of Go-ON UK, the BBC will now play a major role in the delivery of a new high-profile project to increase the digital skills of the UK population. As well as delivering the project, the producer will also liaise regularly with internal and external figures, including BBC Learning’s Head of Policy, to ensure that the relationship with Go-ON UK runs smoothly.
Role
This role provides an excellent opportunity for a creative content maker to gain experience working in a strategic and collaborative manner to ensure the entire BBC plays its part in helping UK residents make the most of emerging media technologies, both now and in the future.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will have worked with external organisations and stakeholders to create excellent content. The producer will have the ability to get a message across using a variety of BBC platforms, so a strong editorial background is also key. A superb communicator with diplomacy and discretion, you will have excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to work within a team as well as on your own initiative.
