Women for Women International Regional Director, Africa or EMEA

Overview
Women for Women International is seeking a Regional Director for Africa & and Regional Director for EMEA to provide strategic leadership and oversee country offices’ program development, implementation and overall management in our country offices.   The RD is accountable for the overall programmatic success of WFWI Country Offices.  The Regional Director provides direction, leadership and guidance to country offices to ensure the achievement of organizational mission, strategy, goals and objectives.   The Regional Director for Africa will be located in Nairobi, Kenya and oversee our offices in DRC, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Sudan.    The Regional Director for EMEA will be located in a European location that will be determined and oversee Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo and Bosnia & Herzegovina.


Duties and Responsibilities
Planning & Budgeting

•    Develop and implement effective regional work plans and budgets to support country offices.
•    Manage deployment of technical staff within the regional office for consultation and support to country offices.
•    Sign off on country office annual operational plans, action plans and budgets before they are submitted to headquarters.

Program Development & Implementation
•    Oversee and advise country office program development and design.
•    Identify opportunities, challenges & potential setbacks for country programs in collaboration with Country Directors.  Support Country Directors to design innovative complementary programs and continuously improve quality of WFWI’s core 12 month program.
•    Ensure that Country Directors are implementing program policy and procedures. Where necessary, provide guidance and coaching for CDs and their teams to implement these policies and procedures.
•    Contribute technical content for programmatic improvements or new developments in country offices.  Identify commonalities across country offices and propose and implement methods of joint problem-solving.
•    Keep the VP Programs and other relevant staff informed of any significant contextual issues such as emergencies, conflicts, developments and/or resolutions in the region that affect WFWI’s programs.
•    Where relevant, lead the expansion of WFWI’s programs to other countries.
•    Contribute to organization-wide strategic thinking and design of new approaches and initiatives.

Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting
•     Monitor progress of country operational and action plans within the region with a view to improving country program performance. Hold detailed quarterly reviews of progress against the annual action plans.
•     Review and report on program results within the region. 
•    Monitor country offices’ use of resources and management performance, and identify best practices and areas in need of improvement. 
•    Monitor adherence to organizational policies and procedures within the region. Support Country Offices in implementing agreed audit or evaluation recommendations, monitor corrective actions taken, provide recommendations on audit priorities for the region and participate in selected country audits where necessary.
•    Alert the VP Programs, SVP Operations, and other relevant staff of possible misconduct in country and regional offices; and, where necessary, support investigations in the region and implement corrective and disciplinary action as required. 

Fundraising, Grant Management & Advocacy
•    Raise the visibility and revenue for country programs through communications, outreach, networking and advocacy.
•    Review and sign off on proposals (narrative and budget), grant agreements, and reports 
•    Develop and maintain relationships with the donor and diplomatic community, NGO partners, the policy community, civil society, and relevant corporate partners; support CDs in connecting with local donor partners. 
•    Oversee implementation for regional grants, participating in monthly meetings and semi-annual reviews with CDs and HQ and providing guidance on any concerns or risks flagged during the implementation process.
•    Lead the development of regional communication and advocacy messages
•    Represent WfWI at conferences and events as needed

Strategic Leadership & Talent Management
The RD has direct oversight responsibility for the Country Directors in assigned countries as well as for the regional Social Development Officer and the Economic Development Officer.
•    Create a working environment conducive to WfWI´s global vision and culture.
•    Build the capacity of Senior Management Teams in country offices through coaching, identifying professional development opportunities, etc.
•    Provide continuous guidance and feedback to Country Directors and technical officers.  Implement an annual performance management review.
•    Lead the recruitment of Country Directors and regional staff, together with the Human Resources department.  On-board new CDs and ensure that they are adequately prepared and supported to take on their new role.


Qualifications & Skills
•    Master's level degree or equivalent post-graduate qualification in relevant field (or 15+ yrs experience in lieu of advanced degree)
•    Minimum of 10 years relevant work experience, of which at least 5 years at senior managerial level in developing countries (prior experience as Country Director  or Regional Director highly desirable)
•    Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to manage a large, complex, culturally mixed team of people through a participatory and enabling management style
•    Familiarity with managing budgets, financial reporting, grant writing and reporting
•    Understanding and experience of gender issues in country offices and proven commitment to addressing gender inequalities in all key areas of responsibility 
•    Successful at establishing relationships, building trust, and inspiring others 
•    Excellent interpersonal, communication and team building skills 
•    Excellent administrative, organizational and time management skills
•    High level of maturity and cultural sensitivity
•    Strong computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Email applications
•    Ability  & willingness to spend at least 25% of the time travelling in sometimes remote and potentially unstable locations
