The Head of Education (HOE) will be responsible for the repositioning and development of the current schools in Bangladesh, direct line management of the school Directors and oversight for the development and roll out of repositioning plans. The HOE will be required to supervise the IB programmes and the existing CIE IGCSE and 'A' Level curricula at The Aga Khan School, Dhaka in close coordination and collaboration with the Heads of Primary & Secondary Schools, IB Coordinators and faculty and to develop practices and policies which will lead the IB programmes.

Leadership and Management


  • To serve as the educational leader by creating, nurturing and sustaining the academic climate in the AKES schools and ensuring effective and efficient management of educational, physical, financial and human resources.
  • Provide visionary leadership in the pedagogy of teaching and learning that translates into visible, measurable and demonstrable gains in examination results without compromising the holistic child-centered nature of education.
  • Evaluate Heads of Schools and ensuring effective appraisal of faculty and staff members to ascertain their abilities and identify professional development needs, in consultation with the Board and to plan and implement a strong and sustainable professional development program.
  • To communicate with the IBO staff at IBAP, disseminate relevant information and notices to staff and administration.

Curriculum and Education Programmes

  • To develop curriculum and course of studies and implement an educational/instructional programme in accordance with the schemes of studies and prescribed curriculum for various levels ensuring proper emphasis is placed on the teaching of science, math and languages.
  • To establish curriculum documents, policies and procedures that will lead to the authorization of the IB programmes.
  • Ensure the development of pertinent and progressive schemes of work in support of the curricula in effect, in close consultation and co-ordination with the two Heads of School for curriculum development and ensure that instruction methodology in classroom in current, meaningful and effective.
  • Ensure that merit criteria for admission of students are in place and being respected by all schools.
Education Policies and Procedures

  • Be aware of changes in educational policies, schemes of studies, curriculum and syllabi, examination requirements and all other policies and procedures that impact the working of the school and implement effective student assessment systems and ensuring that the examination results at various levels are outstanding.
  • Develop policies and practices that are designed to increase the student enrolment, recruitment and retention of students.

Operational and Administrative

  • To assist in planning for the new school.
  • To ensure that the school premises including the classrooms, laboratories, offices, playing-fields, etc. are maintained in a good state of repair and cleanliness and secured against all perils.
  • To maintain up-to-date records of staff, pupil and asset through an efficient filing system.
  • To ensure that the school has a valid certificate of registration.
  • To review and act promptly upon reports of authorised inspecting agencies.
Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum and Instruction from an accredited university. 
  • At least 7 years' experience as a Principal/Head of a School at a reputable international school with the ability to demonstrate strong management and organizational skills. 
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience in both international and local curriculum. 
  • Excellent team-building skills, with proven experience in leading, motivating and empowering people. 
  • A proven track record in the effective and efficient management of fiscal and human resources in a school setting. 
  • Have a good grasp of curriculum management, design, implementation and evaluation. 
  • Experience with IB /IGCSE curriculum. 
  • Have a keen business sense. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Be innovative, dynamic, enthusiastic and able to work with minimum supervision. 
  • Excellent analytical, report writing, presentation and ICT skills. 
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse environment. 
  • Able to travel frequently within or outside Bangladesh.
