The Audit and Risk Management Director will lead the risk management and the audit functions within AKAM’s management team in Geneva. In this capacity, s/he will provide leadership and strategic direction on Risk Management (RM) and audit issues, and help set RM/Audit policies for AKAM and its entities.

  • S/he will develop and implement a risk management strategy and perform operational audits, under the supervision of the General Manager and in close collaboration with AKAM’s management team and CEOs of AKAM entities.
  • S/he will contribute to AKAM’s overall business strategy by advising on risk exposure and by identifying and advising on the risk exposure arising from all strategic decisions.
  • S/he will develop the risk management and audit framework and help establish risk management and audit function/department in every AKAM institution and recruit, develop and retain the necessary human talent needed to manage all risks likely to impact AKAM entities.
  • This will include establishing the right risk management framework, which will help identify, measure, monitor and manage risks and institute risk and audit policies and procedures for managing and reporting on the key indicators of risks on a regular basis. Final deliverables will be audit and risk reports with finding, recommendations for changes and agreed follow-up items.
  • S/he will also lead the recruitment, training, performance assessment and development of professionals to manage risk and audit functions in all AKAM’s institutions.
  • The RM Director/Internal Audit will work closely with other AKDN financial institutions to ensure consistency of strategy and policies and risk profiles within the broader AKDN.
  • The position will be based in Geneva or in one of AKAM’s institutions and will require frequent travel to all AKAM institutions.
The desired candidate should have the following profile:

  • A distinguished career in banking covering all aspects of banking functions, including audit, credit, operations, treasury and financial derivatives and risk management.
  • An advanced degree from a leading University/ College, preferably MBA in finance with a further specialization in banking;
  • Professional Accounting qualification;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of auditing techniques and business operations are required;
  • 15 years practical banking experience with an excellent track record and professional growth to managerial levels based on proven performance;
  • At least 5 years experience at managerial level with responsibility for managing risk and audit for a large retail banking operations with extensive branch networks, large retail loan portfolio, treasury operations, retail deposits taking and wholesale term deposits and medium term loans;
  • A keen interest in and knowledge of Microfinance, development and emerging countries;
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, Basel II requirements, regulations and practices in developing countries, particularly in the regions and countries where AKAM operates;
  • Demonstrable experience of developing and implementing Risk Management framework, strategy, policies and procedures for a retail banking operations or microfinance institutions;
  • Excellent leadership and team building skills, reputation for training and developing staff in specialized skills, fairness, integrity, and sound judgment;
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills;
  • Strong analytical ability, an eye for detail and excellent organization skills;
  • Willingness to travel frequently, sometimes to difficult locations, and at short notice;
  • An excellent command of written and oral English is essential. A working knowledge of French would be highly desirable.
