The AKDN Disaster Risk Management Initiative, which is part of a broader effort in creating a safer built environment, requires a Senior Planner / Civil Engineer with expertise in community-based, disaster-resilient development planning. Strong project management skills, as well as a keen interest in the built environment of mountain, rural and urban settlements, are desired. The Disaster Risk Management Initiative was established to strengthen the disaster management capabilities of the AKDN in Central and South Asia. The DRMI has the following goals: The DRMI is evolving into the AKDN Built Environment Initiative, which will promote long-term risk reduction in urban and rural settlements, as well as multi-input area planning and development. The Senior Planner/Civil Engineer will oversee a portfolio of natural hazard risk reduction projects across Afghanistan, India, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan. These projects will involve re-planning of vulnerable settlements in the Tien Shan, Pamir, Hindu Kush and Karakorum mountain ranges, as defined by the AKDN's Built Environment Initiative. This position is based in Dushanbe, and will require travel throughout the South and Central Asia. | ||
