Product Management Director Role
The Product Management Director plays an essential role in bringing innovative, world-class products to the market that delight our customers and ensure commercial success. As a Product Management Director, you will be at the center of the product creation and commercialization process, sitting at the intersection of our engineering and commercial teams. As a “virtual CEO”, you will own the P&L for your product line. You will work closely with our engineers to guide products from conception to launch, and articulate a vision of where the product is going on order to solve some of the world’s most challenging information management problems. You will also work with our business partners to generate profitable revenue streams by articulating the product value, driving its positioning, and designing the right marketing programs. Finally, you will act as a champion, thought leader, and spokesperson for the product, and be the point person to interact directly with customers, analysts, and other outside parties.
This role requires that you are action-oriented, extremely comfortable working across organizations in a collaborative manner, with strong leadership skills, and possess outstanding analytical skills. It also requires intellectual curiosity and a passion for technology.
As a Director, Product Management in the fast-growing Big Data and Analytics space, you will have an opportunity to lead a growing product line in one of the most strategic investment areas for HP.
Job Description
The Product Management Director is responsible for driving product direction and key market deliverables. This includes managing key elements of the product lifecycle such as defining the product vision, and gathering and prioritizing high level requirements. It also includes working with sales, marketing and support to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met.
The Director of Product Management is expected to:
  • Maintain a 360 degrees view of his / her product line – from products to marketing and sales – and own the overall product P&L
  • Drive the product strategy and high level roadmap
  • Deliver MRDs and PRDs with prioritized features and corresponding justification
  • Work with external third parties to assess strategic partnerships and licensing opportunities
  • Be an expert with respect to the competition and overall market direction
  • Develop the core positioning and messaging for the product
  • Perform product demos to customers and analysts
  • Set pricing to meet revenue and profitability goals
  • Track and deliver revenue figures
  • Ensure delivery of sales tools and collateral
  • Propose an overall budget to ensure success
  • Brief and train the sales force at quarterly sales meetings
  • Brief press and analysts and go on press tours
  • Act as a thought leader within and outside the company
  • Ability to build and lead a team as we grow the Line of Business
Location: Bay Area, CA preferred
Qualifications
  • 12 - 15 years’ experience in Product Management and/or Product Marketing
  • Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products
  • Working experience in the area of Enterprise Software with a preference for Content Management / Collaboration / Enterprise Search
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree (MBA preferred)
  • Technical background preferred
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
