The UK Delegation to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has a vacancy for a full-time Policy Officer in the Economics, Climate and Energy Team. We would like the successful applicant to start as soon as possible.
The OECD is a multilateral organisation undertaking analysis and promoting best practice in a wide range of public policy areas. The UK Delegation is a small office (15 staff) which works to promote Britain’s interests at the OECD. We seek to influence the governance and strategic direction of the OECD, and to ensure that the many UK government departments with an interest in its work get the most out of it. We also work closely with two of the OECD’s sister organisations, the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA). The Delegation is co-located with the British Embassy in Paris with a satellite office in the OECD Secretariat buildings near Porte de la Muette Paris 75016.
This is a busy job, requiring a considerable amount of initiative, knowledge and flexibility on the part of the jobholder. It requires strong reporting capacities.
The UK Delegation is a small team with an informal working atmosphere, an openness to new ideas, and a commitment to supporting and developing staff through training opportunities and participation in joint projects. This job will give the successful candidate the opportunity to work with considerable autonomy and responsibility and to gain experience both in working with the UK government and with an international organisation.
Duties may include:
- Monitor and influence OECD and IEA work on climate change, sustainable energy and fossil fuel subsidies in line with UK priorities.
- Coordinate the UK Government position on the OECD green growth strategy, and influence the OECD accordingly, so that the OECD green growth work is aligned with UK priorities.
- Assist relevant UK Departments in their engagement with the OECD environment committees as well as with the Nuclear Energy Agency.
- Maintain a strategic overview of OECD work on climate, green growth and environment – identifying risks and opportunities for UK interests – in order to advice Whitehall and Delegation officials, including on governance, institutional and budgetary issues.
- Showcase the latest UK developments in these areas to OECD audiences.
- Support Head of Team on International Energy Agency issues.
- Contribute to cross-delegation projects.
Key Selection Criteria and Competences:
- BA/MA, preferably in social science, economics or environmental studies.
- Understanding of the issues around the green growth and climate change policy debates.
- Proficient level of English and very good written and oral communication skills, with ability to communicate specialised material clearly to a non-specialised audience.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a close and dynamic team.
- Networking skills
- Problem solving and judgement
- Strategic awareness
- Good attitude towards team work

Desirable skills:
- Working knowledge of French.
- Experience in a government department/agency or international organisation.
- Experience in an international environment.
Salary
The basic gross salary will be € 2,681.00 per month.
Non salary benefits include possibility of flexible working schemes, access to the Embassy gym, tennis court and OECD out-of-work activities.
