Transparency International UK’s Defence and Security Programme (TI-DSP) is looking for threefull-time Project Officers to work in the team in London.
Organisational Description
Transparency International (TI) is the civil society organisation leading the global fight against corruption. Through more than 90 national chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption, and works with partners in government, business, and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
TI-DSP, a TI programme led by the UK chapter, is dedicated to fighting corruption in the defence and security sector globally. TI-DSP works with governments, defence companies, multilateral organisations, and civil society to build anti-corruption capacity and integrity in defence establishments across the world.
The Roles
We are looking for three project officers to help contribute to and manage the research and government / company engagement for TI-DSP’s two flagship indices:
• The Government Defence Anti-Corruption Index (GI)
• The Defence Companies Anti-Corruption Index (CI)
In the first instance TI-DSP expect to recruit two Project Officer for the GI and one for the CI. The second editions of these indices are due to be launched in 2015. Candidates are requested to clearly state whether they are applying for the Project Officer – GI, or Project Officer – CI role.
These roles are excellent opportunities to work on dynamic and hands-on projects that involve carrying out and dealing with original research, innovative methodologies, and both qualitative and quantitative analysis. It will involve exposure to external researchers and peer reviewers, government and / or defence company officials, and may require international travel.
Other responsibilities will include writing and editing index-related reports, providing administrative assistance, and contributing to advocacy activity and engagement with TI national chapters.
Ideal Skill Set
The ideal skill sets for these roles are different, so individuals are encouraged to think carefully about which best suits them.
Project Officer – GI
• Educated to Master’s level or equivalent.
• Interest in anti-corruption, defence, and /or tools of corruption measurement.
• Excellent standard of English, and ability to edit and simplify complicated text.
• Ability to work with numbers: basic training in statistics preferred.
• Fluency in a second language desirable.
Project Officer – CI
• Educated to Bachelor’s level or equivalent, though Master’s level preferred.
• Experience working in the private sector, preferably in a defence or compliance field.
• Experience communicating with senior staff in companies or other senior officials.
• Attention to detail, and ability to understand and evaluate complicated text.
• Fluency in a second language and basic training in statistics desirable.
The position is based at our offices in Loman Street, London, SE1. As this post is UK based, non-EC nationals will require current and valid permission to work in the UK.
