Position Summary

The Credit Manager is responsible for supporting the business and the ongoing requirement of credit risk management across all of Houston-managed GEMS business, ensuring that the analysts reporting to the Credit Manager, both junior and senior in their experience, actively and accurately mitigate risk in support of commercial activity in their assigned portfolios. As the role is based in Houston, the desk covers counterparties in domestic natural gas trading, global LNG trading, Brazilian crude trading, vessel chartering, shipping, contracts & procurement, Singaporean gas supply market and as the manager of all lockbox agreements in the natural gas book.

The Credit Manager is also responsible for the day-to-day management of the credit portfolio, all credit risk mitigation and ensuring that global trading activities operate within the GEMS Credit Standard, closely working with both the GEMS Head of Risk & Credit, as well as the Group Head of Credit on a daily and ongoing basis.

Key Accountabilities

The Credit Manager is able to propose and approve credit terms for certain portfolio related commodity/shipping transactions, and is responsible for managing the daily and ongoing efforts of the Credit Analysts to perform and meet these efforts as well as for the following:

• Analyzing, evaluating, and determining Houston-portfolio GEMS credit risk;
• Negotiating credit support including all collateral, i.e. letters of credit, prepayments and guarantees, including all other contractual credit terms, and the recommendation on the overall credit terms for associated counterparties;
• Acting credit lead for all system enhancement and IT projects relative to the credit function; and
• Supporting all new global business initiatives relative to the culmination of all new GEMS trading.

The Credit Manager must also liaise with IT to support system functionality on an ongoing basis, the contracts team to support contract negotiations and other commercial functions to ensure that all trade details are accurately reported in an effort to manage trading limits from a credit perspective.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute

Experience Needed:
• Bachelor degree in Business with concentration in economics, finance or mathematics, required;
• Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience with a trading and/or risk management organization;
• Advanced understanding of trading, operations, risk and back office business processes, policies, procedures and controls;
• Understands deal structures and types, interprets exposures, marks-to-market relevant positions and how to manage any potentially involved margining requirements;
• Understands trade reporting regulations, financial and management reporting, financial analysis, credit evaluation, and highly skilled in analysis around the measurement and monitoring of credit risk, including modeling capabilities;
• Strong understanding of energy contract credit clauses and partnering with the contracts team to negotiate these terms;
• Highly skilled in performing research to facilitate problem solving in support of credit analytics;
• Detail orientated with a focus on teamwork and communication;
• Experience with leading, influencing, and managing teams;
• Independent yet supportive of the front office and delivers important information to senior management in a timely manner; and
• Ability to positively, productively, and proactively work with and lead others to success from both a personal and team perspective.
• Credit system experience, CXL credit a plus.
 
Knowledge, Languages, Skills and Attributes:
• Thorough knowledge of credit processes and credit risk mitigation strategies;
• Understanding of the global markets where credit risk management will be employed;
• Knowledge of the a trading business relative to domestic natural gas, global LNG or Brazilian crude;
• Strong understanding of energy contract credit clauses of all associated trading agreements to facilitate the negotiation of associated credit terms;
• Must be able to explain credit considerations in a way that is clear and persuasive; 
• Solid analytical and technical skills in the use of related systems software;
• Excellent leadership and strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to communicate at all levels in the organization; 
• Positive and proactive;
• Ability to work with and communicate across a variety of backgrounds and cultures; and
• Highly motivated and able to operate in a dynamic, fast paced environment and to do so in an autonomous fashion.
 
Special Features:
Ability to travel from the US to various assets in support of the credit function, as needed, in support of the team and business, as a whole.
