Design and Engineering Manager

Our Client- Our Client is a leading global solar power company that specialises across the full value chain of utility scale solar plant development.
Job Description-
Solar PV technology
  • Knowledge of state of the art technology related to solar PV panels, grid tie inverters, combiner boxes, DC collections, SCADA / monitoring systems.                     
  • Ability to run PVSyst would be an added advantage.
     
Bidding Support
  • Preparation of Technical offers based on the tender documents including Bill of Materials.
  • Attending discussions with Client/Client's consultant for optimizing the cost & finalizing the scope for the project.
  • Preparation of Costing & completing Risk Review for Bid submission.
     
Order Receipt, Review & Acceptance
  • Review of the Technical terms & conditions and Technical Specification.
  • Risk Analysis & Mitigation Plans for the Project.
  • Finalization of the Cost Control Sheet for the project.
     
Engineering
  • Preparation of SLDs for LV & MV switchgears
  • Preparation of Technical specifications for LV & MV Switchgears, Transformers, UPS, Cables etc. and review of the vendor drawings.
  • Sizing & selection of Equipment like Power Transformer, Distribution & Converter Transformers, HT
  • & LT Capacitors, UPS, Motor Control Centers etc.
  • Preparation of Electrical Equipment Layout, HT & LT Power Cable Sizing, & Scheduling. Cable Tray
  • Routing and cable routing Layouts, Bill of Quantity of erection materials
     
Civil & Structural
  • Assessment and evaluation of technologies for module support structure: fixed & tracking, rooftop & ground mount
  • Evaluation of BOM and technical features of solar structures and trackers: source materials, treatments, assembling systems, gear devices, foundations
  • Technical discussion with structure and tracker suppliers.
  • Feasibility assessment of rooftops to bear extra static and dynamic loads due to solar systems.
  • Assessment and evaluation of ground foundations calculations.
  • Suggesting best foundation method / technique for structure in different soiling conditions.
  • Providing support in defining / designing new products related to structures.
  • FEM/FEA analysis for structures.
  • Arriving at technical and material specifications for structures.
  • Formulating QAP for selection of materials and fabrication of structures.
  • Inspection of structures at site.
  • Supporting Sales for defining new solutions to mount solar modules either on various types of roofs / ground mount.
  • Supporting project execution by evaluating vendor drawings and providing any site specific solutions.
     
Inspections & Site coordination
  • Inspection at vendor works for equipment like Transformers, HT & LT Switchgears, UPS, HT & LT Capacitors etc.
  • Site coordination during erection & commissioning at site
     
Job scope and responsibilities:
  • Responsible for managing design and deliverables as applicable for various stages of the projects and maintaining an expected quality of design. Maintains standards and procedures for all typical D&E tasks and deliverables.
  • Manage internal D&E processes including all database and report management activities.
  • Manage and resource a queue of constructible projects with agreed upon schedules for core deliverables i.e. construction plans, permits, and Bill of Materials. Manage all day to day activities, including company processes for the team members assigned to a project group.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams during all phases of the project process, to coordinate all aspects of project schedules and project delivery between regional and central resources.
  • Provides technical support to Business Development team for quality due diligence, scheduling, cost modeling, interaction with statutory bodies, nodal agencies and utilities for relevant approvals and preparation of complete Detailed Project Report, proposals, contracts, specifications, reviewing tender documents etc.
  • Provide oversight for system component selection, module and inverter specifications and system sizing, and overall design quality and code checks. Coordinate with stake holders to meet required approvals and provide internal updates.
  • Provide cross-coordination for design updates, field suggestions, specifications, for service and or construction related items - manage design templates and CAD requirements as needed.
  • Optimize and customize ground mount solutions either by design, material selection, or installation.
  • Create solutions based on project need and coordinate with cross-functional departments to bring into fruition. Develop and model new solutions for ease of installation, increased performance, and standardize for long term solutions.
  • Co-ordinate with back office from India at times of concerns or whenever clarification is to be sought.
     
Candidate Requirements-
  • Job Related Experience: (8-15 years)
  • Design/engineering, procurement, EPC negotiation and project management of:
  • Power plants (solar, wind, diesel)
  • Switchyard Design (Hybrid, GIS, AIS)
  • EHV, MV & LV power Distribution.
  • Civil & Structural design
  • Real experience on construction sites: timings, construction techniques, work in progress issues
  • Knowledge:
  • Related codes and standards - Japanese codes and international e.g. IEC, ASTM, BS, IS, ASME, DIN.
  • Related Tools and software like Staad Pro, FEA, AutoCAD etc.
  • Related utilities, installers, providers and manufacturers
  • Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical or Civil / Structural engineering
  • Communication:
  • Mandatory to have strong written and oral communication skills in both Japanese & English.
  • Presentation skills.
