Dormer Tools North America, a leading manufacturer of High Speed Steel & carbide round tools, and part of the world leading Dormer Tools Group, has an open position for a Machining Applications Training Specialist at their Elgin, IL location.
The role
The candidate in this position must be able to fulfill all the requirements of this position, including requirements related to the company's Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System Policies and procedures.
Under general direction, the Machining Applications Training Specialist is responsible for providing Technical Training to Sales Personnel, Channel Partners, and Customers for all Dormer brands. He/she will help to develop tools to be used in the training activity to allow external field sales to become self-sufficient in Customer/Distributor training,in order to secure profitable market share growth and budget attainment in accordance with established protocols, practices and procedures.
Key performance areas
  • Be a major participant as a trainer covering diverse product-related topics. Develop and refine presentation skills to be used in class, on facility tours and in field training. Perform local training for customers and distributors to support sales people. Support corporate training events, i.e., Marketing, etc…
  • Support new developing training methods such as distance learning, electronic mediums, Internet. Participate in projects developing in these emerging areas.
  • Participate in tool shows and technical meetings. Set-up and run tooling demonstrations on various machine tools during training/customer programs and keeping demonstrations in line with the schedule established for each training/customer program.
  • Prepare CAM programs for training and customer visits in the Training Center for turning machines and machining centers.
  • Order and maintain all tooling required or consumed for training demonstrations and/or customer projects and displays.
  • Keep all lab machine tools maintained and in good working order, while maintaining records on all maintenance work that is performed.
  • Keep current on the operation of all lab machine tools and work closely with Product/Industrial Management, to assure communication of best practices and the use of the latest product technology.
  • Make customer visits when necessary.
  • Help in developing educational materials and bulletins based on field investigations, engineering changes, and overall knowledge of product.
  • Help develop and conduct training programs to customers as well as inside and outside sales teams on the proper selection and application of products.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Your profile
  • Manufacturing Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in manufacturing.
  • An understanding of CAD/CAM software with machine programming experience.
  • A minimum of five years' experience running CNC Machine Tools developing and implementing effective machining processes.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customer personnel, especially engineering staff and/or programmers.
  • Ability to communicate tooling and tool path strategies effectively.
  • Strong overall computer skills. Must be able to travel within the U.S. and internationally. Proficiency in MS Office; Excel, PowerPoint, Word. Excellent communication/presentation skills, oral and written.
  • Highly motivated; Strong organizational skills. Disciplined self-starter; Ability to multitask.
  • Customer Service Orientation.
  • Occasional business travel.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US.
  • Must adhere to Sandvik Code of Conduct Policy
