To ensure that the Group maximises value through its worldwide energy marketing and shipping activities, it has consolidated the trading and marketing activities from around the Group into one team, Global Energy Marketing and Shipping (or GEMS).

Position Summary

The [Trading] Contract Manager’s role is one providing support to GEMS in respect of the drafting, negotiation, approval, execution and retention of trading related contracts for GEMS, in particular oil trading, LNG sales and purchases and gas trading and origination. This will include taking the lead in relation to the processing of documents, obtaining internal approvals and, where appropriate, will extend to being actively involved in the drafting and negotiation of contracts. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity for further career development in a dynamic team environment. The Contract Manager will report to GEMS Legal.

Key Accountabilities

Receiving the trader’s deal sheet, preparing draft confirmations, issuing confirmations once agreed, reviewing responses to confirmations from counterparties, concluding negations with counterparties once confirmation is in agreed form in conjunction with the Legal function assigned to GEMS where appropriate;
Maintaining a record of the progress of negotiations with counterparties from receipt of trader’s deal sheet all the way to recording when agreement is concluded;Drafting and negotiating gas origination contracts and industry standard gas trading agreements in conjunction with the Legal function assigned to GEMS where appropriate;
Assisting with counterparty onboarding and know-your-customer process management; 
Preparing documents to obtain internal approval to execute agreements, issuing to those whose support is needed to execute the agreement, obtaining signature of the agreement by BG signatories, exchanging signed agreements with counterparty and filing originals in physical and electronic data storage;
Drafting board minutes and attending board meetings with agreements to be executed
Drafting and reviewing powers of attorney, parent company guarantees and confidentiality agreements;
Review of contracts (dependent on level of experience and knowledge);
Document management and document searches;
Legal research;
General administrative duties;Coordinate and interact with other functions within the company to achieve workloads;
Assist in on-going improvement and streamlining of existing documentary processes;
Working with GEMS to understand/clarify requirements in relation to all of the above and meet their needs;
and
Ad hoc projects.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute

A legal qualification such as a law degree will be an advantage. The ideal candidate will have experience as a contract manager in-house and exposure to the energy industry will be looked on favourably. They will also require:
·         -       Significant self-motivation and an ability to manage their own workload with limited supervision;
·         -      Attention to detail and a thoroughness in administering the creation of contracts;
·         -      An appetite to learn and develop their contracts/legal skills; Self-confidence and ability to ask questions to ensure that correct result is achieved;

-   Good analytical skills and developing influencing and strategic thinking capability;
Able to take instructions and carry them out accurately;
·         -      Ability to plan ahead to meet business requirements;
·         -      Capability to lead others as the business expands;

-   Requires working knowledge of contract law and must be able to understand, manage, coordinate and act upon work and inputs of various specialist support functions such as Credit/Treasury, Finance and Legal;

-   Ability to work as part of a team but also to use own initiative and manage own workload including time management;
 
-   Strong IT skills.
