New business development manager

Chemonics seeks a new business development manager based in Washington, D.C., for our Afghanistan regional business unit. The manager will support our dynamic portfolio and new business efforts in the region. The successful candidate will exemplify leadership and diplomacy and bring proactive problem-solving skills. Responsibilities include:
• Initiate and develop effective working relationships with clients, potential partners, counterparts, stakeholders, subcontractors, technical specialists, and donor agencies
• Identify and develop new business leads
• Oversee management of new business consultants, including timesheet management and ensuring payments are processed for consultants
• Develop and supervise implementation of proposal strategies in collaboration with senior vice president and director of new business development to optimize profitability and win rate
• Learn and promote strategies for effective teamwork and leadership development and cultivate collaborative working relationships across the company
• Engage in a technical practice of relevance, sharing information and best practices learned with the company
• Supervise, develop, and evaluate assigned staff
• Provide organizational planning and management support to outside facilitators
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
• Minimum three years of relevant project management and staff supervisory experience
• Thorough understanding of USAID requirements and preferred methods of business
• Understanding and fluency in administrative, accounting, and management systems, with a demonstrated ability to mentor staff in these areas
• Experience writing proposal or report sections of at least 10 pages in length
• Demonstrated leadership on a project management team
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Willingness to travel and work abroad a minimum of four to eight weeks per year; experience living or working in developing countries preferred
• Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
• Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
• Language proficiency in geographic area preferred
