Norlha is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious NGO based in Lausanne, Switzerland, that supports remote and poor communities in the Himalayas to improve their lives in terms of food security, livelihoods and gender equality. Norlha currently has projects in Nepal, Bhutan and China. In order to promote gender equality throughout all these projects Norlha is looking for a :

(Gender Mainstreaming Officer) (F/M)

Contract type : volunteer position or internship (part-time or full-time)

Mission

Ensure that gender perspectives are central to all activities of Norlha and that gender equality is guaranteed in all the projects.

Job description

1. Collaborate with the Department of Operations and Regional Office to ensure that gender issues are well integrated in all aspects of program design and implementation
2. Review and analysis of baseline studies conducted in the Himalayan region to assess their level of gender sensitivity
3. Develop concepts and approaches to provide all of the Norlha team with the skills and information they need to effectively integrate gender issues in their programs
4. Design and organize training workshops on gender mainstreaming for Norlha’s staff
5. Liaise with experts in gender mainstreaming from other organizations
6. Elaborate GM tools and assess the integration of gender dimensions throughout the organization and its activities
7. Create a culture of knowledge sharing and learning across the organization

Candidate Profile

• Master degree in Social Sciences, ideally in Gender Studies or Development Studies
• Strong engagement towards the welfare of women in developing countries
• Experience in international development (especially in social sector) strongly preferred
• Research experience in developing countries
• Skills/experiences in capacity building and development of organizational work processes
• Proficiency in reporting, analysis and synthesis
• Sound computer skills
• Excellent speaking and writing skills in English and preferably also French
• Good knowledge of and affinity with the Himalayas are a definite asset
• Highly motivated and dynamic personality, comfortable working autonomously and in a team, eager to take initiatives

Other information

Duration and work time: Long term position : at least 6 months at 30% or more; Short term position : at least 4 months at 60% or more

Location : Lausanne, partial home-based work possible
