BACKGROUND INFORMATION
On the basis of the EU-LAC Structured and Comprehensive Dialogue on Migration in June 2009, IOM has been entrusted by the European Commission with the task to strengthen the dialogue and cooperation between the EU and LAC Member States and to establish management models on migration and development policies through a project ending on January 2015. The Intern will support the activities of the project and work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Project Officer and under the overall supervision of the Head of Regional Implementation Unit in Brussels.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Intern will have the following duties and responsibilities:
1. Assist the revision and the editing of EU-LAC project publications in English and Spanish by: a) revising foot notes and bibliography as well as English proofreading of the update of the rapid assessment of the CELAC region and b) reviewing the draft content of a M&D Manual into a user friendly manual;
2. Help the preparation of a technical seminar on the project in the framework of the EU-CELAC High Level Meeting on Migration;
3. Provide editing and proofreading English assistance for the draft final narrative report of the EU-LAC project, by: a) ensuring matching between activities developed and results achieved against the results/activities detailed in the project ToR and b) English proofreading;
4. Support the logistics and administrative preparations of project steering committee meetings and note taking during other meetings;
5. Assist with administrative work, such as paymentsfor the project and liaising with IOM administrative and financial services;
6. Any other duties as may be required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • University degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies or related field is required;
  • Full computer literacy;
  • Experience in proof reading or editing of English texts;
  • English mother tongue level and excellent knowledge of written/spoken Spanish;
  • Practical experience of how to multi-task, prioritize and work independently;
  • Proven ability to produce quality work accurately and concisely according to set deadlines;
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds;
  • Previous professional experience or internship in thematic area of migration and/or related development issues is desirable;
