The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is an international organisation promoting global monetary and financial stability and is a bank for central banks. We are currently looking for a Credit Risk Analyst (with the corporate job title of Counterparty Credit Analyst) to conduct credit analysis and make proposals on ratings and limit structures for the Bank for International Settlements' exposures to banks and sovereigns. As part of the Credit Analysis team, the ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of financial risk topics. He/she will be able to work independently with considerable attention to detail, while being a proactive, solution-oriented team player.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts credit analysis with a focus on bank and sovereign risk;
  • Formulates proposals and recommendations relating to credit ratings and limit structures for senior management approval;
  • Monitors compliance with credit rules and limits and ensures correct legal documentation is in place for dealing activities;
  • Investigates errors and authorizes credit limit breaches within authority delegated by the line manager;
  • Contributes to the production and development of a range of credit risk reports;
  • Provides input for the development of new banking products, including credit policy proposals for senior management;
  • Contributes to the maintenance and revision of the Bank's internal rating methodology and to the development of the general framework for credit analysis;
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of IT-based credit risk measurement tools; ensures quality and integrity of system-held data;
  • Develops and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders, representing the Risk Control department as required;
  • Participates in projects as required.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • University degree, preferably in finance, business or economics; CFA or equivalent qualification would be desirable;
  • Five years of relevant work experience as a credit analyst in a major financial institution and/or rating agency;
  • Excellent knowledge of financial risk measurement, management and control;
  • Highly organised self-starter with the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines;
  • Very good communication skills; high level of intercultural sensitivity;
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Another major international language would be desirable.
