ARC Climate Change Adaptation Consultant
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are seeking to fill a consultancy position of Climate Change Adaptation Consultant for the African Risk Capacity (ARC). The contract will be for an initial period of 6 months, with possibility of extension. The Climate Change Adaptation Consultant will join the new XCF (Extreme Climate Facility) team and assist in developing this part of its work programme and well as contribute to the success of the overall R&D phase. This position is a work from home position based in New York City, DC area or the East Coast US time-zone.
African Risk Capacity (ARC) is a Specialised Agency of the African Union. The ARC Agency leads the ARC Group, a development finance institution that provides financial tools and infrastructure to help countries manage natural disaster risk and adapt to climate change. It currently counts 25 AU countries as members and is supervised by a governing board of African ministers and experts chaired by Nigeria’s, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
In partnership with the CDKN (Climate Development Knowledge Network), ARC has started to work on the development of a set XCF standards and guidelines for climate-resilient investments to be funded by these additional climate adaptation funds should they be triggered. It is in this context that ARC is seeking a Climate Change Adaption Consultant to join the new XCF team and assist in developing this part of its work programme and well as contribute to the success of the overall R&D phase.
As part of the growing XCF R&D team, reporting to the ARC Director of Research & Development, the Consultant will directly contribute to the work required to fully conceptualise the XCF as an effective climate risk management tool for ARC Member States.
