INTERNATIONAL CONSULTANT TERMS OF REFERENCE
National/International assignment: Event Programme Advisor
Contract Duration: 120 working days from ASAP to 31 December 2015
Duty station and/or travel itinerary: ITC HQ-based, no travel foreseen at the moment
Background
ITC will hold its 15 th World Export Development Forum (WEDF) in Qatar in October 2015. WEDF is a flagship event which brings together around 500 people from around the world, to discuss trends and innovations in export development and export competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises, and to identify and analyse the challenges faced by developing countries and economies in transition in diversifying and expanding their trade. Preparations have already begun in terms of determination of location, date and, very generally, around the theme of the event. A consultant is required to contribute to programme development and speakers mobilization including development of sub-themes and individual topics, speakers' and participants' mobilization, invitation and other related tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities
The consultant will report to the Senior Publications and Events Manager and will work under the direct guidance of the WEDF coordinator and in close cooperation with the Associate Events Adviser and the Communications and Events team.
Duties will include:
  • Research content matching the overall event theme to build the event programme
  • Develop detailed programme matching sub-themes and topics with corporate objectives and technical expertise, liaising with in-house technical experts; and with other UN or international organizations counterparts
  • Research, contact and secure high-level speakers and moderators
  • Prepare and finalize session briefs based on the event programme and brief speakers and moderators accordingly
  • Assist with other event-related tasks
Outputs and Timelines
  • Research and programme concept notes (by end-April 2015)
  • Drafts of event programme (last adjustments by J une 2015)
  • Updated list of speakers with contact details and status (all speakers secured by J une 2015, with replacement plan ongoing until the event)
  • Session briefs (by July 2015)
Skills
Excellent writing, presentation, research and communication skills
Education
University studies required, preferably in Economy, Trade, International Relations or other relevant subject. Advanced university studies are an asset.
Experience
Number of years: 7-10
Proven experience in international events management, including programme development, speakers and participant mobilization. Knowledge of UN system and protocol is an asset.
Language(s)
Excellent English essential. Other UN languages are an asset.
