Job Title: Learning Officer
Reporting To: Senior Education Specialist
Contract: 12 months
Location: Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
Camara Education is a charity and social enterprise that uses technology to improve the quality of education for students in disadvantaged communities.
Founded almost ten years ago in Dublin, Ireland the organisation has built a proven model of 'education delivery' that is both sustainable and highly scalable. To do this, Camara has provided educationally focused technology to 3,100 schools in Africa, Ireland and the Caribbean - installed nearly 62,000 computers and trained over 16,000 teachers how to integrate ICT into teaching and learning practices.
Camara is a registered charity in the US, Ireland and the UK. It currently operates six Education Hubs in Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, Lesotho, Tanzania), one in Haiti and one in Ireland. All Hubs operate as social enterprises and are financially sustainable after one year.
Overview of the Role:
The role of Learning Officer will involve working on behalf of the Organisational Quality Department and with Education hubs to build the capacity of hubs to develop and deliver appropriate quality training products.
You will have a proven track record of developing training programmes, including eLearning content development. In addition you, will have experience in capacity development of teams. You will have excellent communication and planning skills. You should also have some knowledge or experience within Primary or Secondary Education sectors, and specifically in the areas of mathematics and literacy.
Self motivation, enthusiasm, creativity and commitment to equality and education are a must, along with the ability to work on your own initiative.
Responsibilities:
  • Development of training courses and programmes based on hub and project needs
  • Development of eLearning based training modules
  • Govern education hubs to ensure trainers are delivering training products to a high standard.
  • Ensure hub compliance to all training processes and procedures.
  • Provide necessary capacity development and support to hub trainers throughout Camara network
  • Track all hub training operations and work to ensure that standards for training administration and delivery are maintained.
  • Provide training targets and feedback on quality indicators.
  • Monitor and advise hub CEO’s on individual trainer standards, objectives and development plans
  • Work with Organisation Quality department to update and maintain Camara Training Policies where necessary.
  • Work with Senior Education Specialist to engage with educational partners in country.

  • Good understanding of the primary and secondary education context;
  • Excellent communication skills to establish and maintain positive working relationships with schools, partners, government, staff and key stakeholders;
  • Personal commitment to organisational excellence – displays honesty, integrity, and a strong sense of ethics in all decision and actions;
  • Is resilient – remains calm and deliberate under conditions of stress;
  • Has the ability to organise time to the best advantage of Camara;
  • Excellent oral and written communication;
  • Willingness to travel extensively
Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • 4 years+ Training experience
  • Must have previous experience working in a developing country
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Educated to Degree level
