About UNIFE
UNIFE represents (www.unife.org) the European Rail Industry in Brussels since 1992. The Association gathers more than 80 of Europe’s leading large and medium-sized rail supply companies active in the design, manufacture, maintenance and refurbishment of rail transport systems, subsystems and related equipment. A further one thousand suppliers of railway equipment partake in UNIFE activities through 16 national rail industry associations. UNIFE members have an 80% market share in Europe and supply more than 50% of the worldwide production of rail equipment and services.
UNIFE represents its members’ interests at the level of both European and international institutions. On the technical side, UNIFE coordinates EU-funded research projects that aim at the technical harmonisation of railway systems and works on the setting of interoperability standards. The association is one of the supporting bodies to the European Union Agency for Railways.
Job description
We are looking for a Technical Affairs Manager/Project Manager, who will be mainly responsible for:
- The project management, dissemination, communication and exploitation activities for ongoing and future EU funded research projects (including proposal and project phases);
- The development of relations with the European Global Navigation Satellite Systems Agency (GSA) and UNIFE activities in the field of satellite applications in railway systems;
- The co-ordination of UNIFE’s activities in the respective fields of European regulation, standardisation and technical railway legislation;
- Any other tasks as deemed necessary for the Association.
He/she will assist the relevant internal working groups of the association (e.g. Electromagnetic compatibility, Control Command and Signalling platform, Running Dynamics working groups).
The Technical Affairs Manager/Project Manager will have to report to the UNIFE Head of Technical Affairs Unit.
Candidate’s requirements
- University or Master’s degree in engineering or project management with 3-4 years professional experience;
- Relevant experience in management of EU funded projects; overview of rail oriented standards and regulations (especially ERTMS) is a strong advantage;
- Knowledge of EU transport/rail issues and interest in technical issues is a strong advantage;
- Strong coordination/organisation skills and excellent writing and verbal communications skills;
- Rigorous, detail oriented and strong analytical skills;
- High degree of organization skills and ability to appreciate and follow priorities;
- The candidate must be fluent in English; knowledge of other European languages is an advantage;
- Experience in the railway industry is an advantage;
- Knowledge of European railway regulatory and standardisation process is an advantage.
For this position UNIFE is looking for a dynamic, independent, team-oriented and creative person and willing to work in a small team. Please note that the position requires travelling in the EU (average 4 days a month).
