CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER - PERTH MARKET AUTHORITY

Exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in maintaining market leadership in fresh food produce wholesaling.

The Perth Market Authority (PMA) trading as Market City was established to create Western Australia's central fresh produce market. Market City plays a crucial role in the marketing and distribution of fresh produce in the State. The core function of the PMA is to facilitate an efficient market which provides a real strategic and commercial advantage to tenants and their customers including growers and buyers.

As Chief Executive Officer, you are responsible for a strong, well managed and resourced asset that will encourage growth and stimulate confidence in the fresh food industry. You are also accountable to a seven member governing Board. Your key challenges will include:

  • Initiating strategies to retain and enhance the profitability of the PMA tenants and their clients and customers, including proactive commercial property management strategies
  • Improving capital development performance within the public sector frameworks and processes
  • Maintaining a viable and vibrant market and commercial centre with community engagement
  • Providing support for fresh produce retailers through training and marketing initiatives
  • Contributing to government and industry initiatives to enhance the viability and prosperity of participants in the WA fresh produce sector - from growers to customers in local and export markets.

To be successful in this position, you will have a proven ability to inspire a sense of purpose and be able to think, act and focus strategically whilst understanding the PMA's current and future roles in providing services to industry, community and government. You will have demonstrated that you can achieve results through building organisational skill and responsiveness and through the ability to lead and implement change. Superior communication skills are needed to effectively represent the PMA and promote an understanding of its role and services with a diverse range of audiences including Ministers, public and private sector leaders and community groups. You will be able to act decisively and have significant personal integrity and high ethical standards. A proven record of building and maintaining effective working relationships both internally and externally showing respect for diverse viewpoints is also required. The ability to negotiate persuasively is essential so that the desired objectives and outcomes are achieved.
